Question to anyone using DLguard for a membership site

Just wondering if it offers an automatic password retrieval feature to users?

From what I read, you put a line of code into the pages that you want to protect. However, if there are multiple pages within the site does the user have to enter their info each time?

And lastly, how does "logging in" work - is it a popup that asks for their username or password or are those fields on the actual webpage?

Thanks all!

I'm not 100% sure, but my answers are: yes, and they are fields on the webpage. Again, I'm not sure (I never used DL guard myself, I just installed it once for a customer), so it's better if someone else answers after me.

    Hi LeapingHorse,

Thanks for your interest in DLGuard!

Poglia is right (thanks for sharing your experience, Pogila!):

Yes, there is an automatic password retrieval feature built in.

Once your member logs in, they DON'T need to login again when you go to different pages. Basically they stay logged in until they either click the "Logout" link, or they close their browser window.

Please let me know if you need me to clarify!

Sam, does DLGuard support multilevel memberships? If so, how does that work? If I wanted this:

    level 1 = free
    level 2 = paid
    level 3 = paid more

...then I assume level three pages would require just one code for level three members, but would they have access to level two and one as well? How would that work, just by adding different access codes?

Also, does this work with HTML pages, or do they need to be PHP or what?

Does it have a feature to "drip content" so that someone can't join level three and download everything in sight and quit the next day? In other words, can members be limited in how much they download?

    Thanks, Dennis

    Hi Dennis,

Yes, DLGuard can have multiple levels of membership.

What will the difference between the membership levels be? Downloads or webpages (or both)?

Either (or both) can be done.

For pages, yes you just add different code to the pages for the different levels. You can also customize the "login" page so that when someone from a lower membership level tries to access a higher page, it says "Signup here for Golf membership!"

Downloads is even easier - you just put the product numbers of the products you want your members to have access to in the group setup page in DLGuard. Then DLGuard will automatically display the download links for the appropriate level of membership access.

    Does that make sense?

The pages need to be PHP. Having said that, it IS possible to use a htaccess file to run PHP code on a HTML page, so if you've already got a tonne of membership pages that you don't want to rename, that's a possibility.

There isn't a built-in drip content (though I'll be adding that into Pro), but it's pretty easy to do. DLGaurd makes the customer's signup date available via a PHP variable, and so any reasonable programmer could write a quick script to read that and then decide which download links to display.

Let me know if you need me to clarify!

I'm good on those, but I thought of couple more questions. First, how may sites is a license good for?

Second, if I have my main memberships site with multiple levels, would I be able to set up mini-protected areas? What I'm thinking of is having separate protected areas for different courses. In one way I could see it might work as just being a bunch more levels, but I'd want to sell to people that don't belong to the member site to be able to buy into individual courses, so it would be more like setting up multiple member sites. Doable?

      Thanks in advance, Sam.

I can attest that DLGuard is an amazing product, and that Sam supports it quite well. I recently bought a license for his product and as of about 16 hours ago released my first eBook!! I'm really excited.

But if you are interested in getting DLGuard, I would do it, you won't be disappointed. The product has its own login pages that can easily be customized, and the password options are pretty easy to follow.

For the record, Sam probably doesn't even know I exist, so I'm not getting paid to say good words about his product in any fashion

Heh, well I do now! I still see names of people popping up that bought DLGuard when it was first released (anyone remember CB Download Manager?). The business started out with very much a family feel, and that feel is still around today, which is nice!

Congratulations on the launch of your first ebook! I hope it's going well!

DL Guard is by far one of the best IM purchases I have ever made since getting on the internet. So far I have over 170 individual products on the same website and DL Guard makes the delivery system completely seamless, working 24/7/365.

Sam, we chatted awhile back about customizing DL Guard to allow for splitting sales of products to different paypal addresses. Is that something you would consider including in future releases of DLG?

And yes, definately - now that Paypal has added the ability to assign payment splits automatically, I'll be adding this into DLGuard Pro. It's coming along nicely!

    Hi Dennis,

DLGuard is good for two installs. If you're selling single item products (such as niche or mini sites), then you can manage ALL of your websites from the one installation.

For membership sites, the members area needs to be on the same website as DLGuard.

Yes, you can have multiple membership areas all on the same website.

    Such as:

    www.example.com/membersCourse1
    www.example.com/membersCourse2
    www.example.com/membersCourse3

    ...etc.

You can have an unlimited number of these.

This is sounding good, Sam. Tell me about splitting Paypal payments. This is leading to a whole bunch of questions...sorry!

Is this like RAP where one payment goes to the vendor and the next to the affiliate (on a 50% commission, for example), or is each payment actually split between 2 (or more?) email addresses? Is it basically a built in affiliate system then? Can different different products have different percentages as far as the splits go? Any idea when this version will be ready?

Also, is there a provision for more licenses? It would work out best for me using it on three domains.

    Hi Dennis,

No worries, I'm happy to help!

It's not like RAP (though I'll probably put that option in there for those interested), it's the actual splitting of one single payment between two or more Paypal email addresses.

It's not like those scripts we saw a lot of years ago where you pay twice (half to the vendor, half to the affiliate) either, it's a proper payment split.

So yes, this will be a full blown affiliate system.

Yes, different prodcuts can have different splits.

I'm not sure when it'll be ready, but it's coming along well. I've decided to release it in stages, because it's taking too long to get everything together in one shot. This payment splitting will be the first stage.

Yes, you can get extra licences for discount rates, too.

    cheers

DL Guard is a great product, I love it, but Sam seems to be chicken to release DL Guard Pro. It will never be perfect Sam, just release the dang thing please. I'm am really tired about hearing about DL Guard Pro. And that's just because I want it. You have been talking about it for a few years now. Quit dangling the carrot and put out at least a beta version. Please!

Yes, that's right! So when it's ready to roll, there'll be two versions available from my site: Standard and Pro. It means people can then pick what fits their business the best (and later upgrade, if they wish).

Heh, yeah I know I've been secretly wondering how many people think it's vapor-ware

I think the whole "having a baby" thing set development back a tad, and that's why I'm now looking to release it in phases.

DLGuard Pro will come out, and then I'll release a succession of updates to it that'll add the extra Pro features in.

Naturally the most called-for features will come first.

Thanks for hanging in there, George

Sam, I'd buy today if it would do the split pay now. Maybe that will be an incentive!
Thanks for the interest, Dennis! This recent update from Paypal has changed things a little, making it possible to do split payments well. I've never liked previous solutions to this, but this new Paypal feature actually does things properly. I like that in a script!

If we buy now Sam, do we get a discount on the pro?
Obvious question as i'd rather wait if it has alot more features?
Yes, you certainly will! Everyone will be able to upgrade to Pro from Standard, but for existing customers when Pro is released you'll also get an extra discount as my "thanks for your support" gesture.

I like to take care of current clients, since they're the ones that make it possible for me to pay my bills and put food on my table!

Also..its not fair, i know, to compare to RAP but i've narrowed it
down to yours or RAP....convert me Sam
Well I'm not going to bad-mouth RAP, because from what I hear it's a good script, and I've got respect for Sid.

So what I can tell you: DLGuard accepts more payment processors, with extra's being added all the time. DLGuard has a built in membership system - no need to buy extra 3rd party plugins. DLGuard is constantly being developed, and has coming close to six years of development time and real world testing and improvement. It's a good, solid script that's been here for six years, and will be here for a lot longer.

It's my main source of income, and that's why I put so much time and attention into it.

I'm not sure about RAP, but other download management systems that pop up all the time are generally side projects for marketers. They're launched, they bring in some money, and then the marketer moves onto the new project.

That's why a lot of these other systems pop up, get lots of attention for a short while, and then dissapear.

DLGuard is my main business, not my side project, and that makes a huge different to things like customer support levels, attention to bug fixes, and constant development and addition of new features.

    I hope this helps!

    cheers

  • Finally found the answers to my questions!

I'm currently building my own membership website and have been looking around for the best membership script available. My choices are down to two, DLGuard and Amember. I was leaning towards Amember, until I came to Warrior Forum. All DLGuard reviews I've read are overwhelming positive! So I'll give it a try, too.

I'm leaning the exact same way too, lol, great thread here.

How does one use this as far as building the website goes? Do I build my site and then add DL to it? Or, does DL have its own site structure with pages and home pages etc, with options for me to input the data and pictures to individualize it?

    Hi Bladerunner,

Thanks for your interest in DLGuard!

DLGuard lets you create your membership pages yourself, which gives you the best flexability over your page design and any scripts or forms, etc., that you want to run inside your members area.

Having said that, there is an example members area that comes with DLGuard, all set up and ready to go. You can just copy that one and modify the pages, if you wish!

I don't have membership sites I can show you, as I'd need client permission to do so first, but there are a lot of people on this forum using DLGuard that may be happy to show you their site!
