If You Struggle To Make Money Online, Are You REALLY Working Hard Enough?

Hey Guys....

I have seen a number of the "I've been doing IM for years and still can't make money so I quit" type of threads lately.

It seems that in most cases the "hard work" that they have been putting into creating and maintaining profitable online ventures is minimal.

Rather, there is a misconception of what the word "work" means when it comes to Internet Marketing. Buying and reading one ebook after another is not work. It's fun, I give you that. I love reading about the different aspects of internet marketing and how I can apply it to my own blogs and websites. But that step isn't work.

It only becomes work when I take what I learned and then aplly it by taking some sort of action. Reading about the concept does nothing by itself. Taking action, experiencing the results firsthand. Altering the concept slightly to better fit your needs.

When I hear someone say "I have been doing IM for years without success", I automatically assume that this person hasn't taken enough action. If you have truly been doing something (anything really) for years, then you will see the some results from it. People just aren't working hard enough.

This is so common. I'll often see someone say "I tried article marketing and it doesn't work." Really? It seems to work for most people.

Did they really work hard enough on article marketing to truly make that judgment? Often times the "work" they put in were 2 poorly written articles published to EZA with no keyword optimization done. That's the exent of the hard work that they put in.

Now, what would have happened if he REALLY put in the hard work involved. Let's say that he just wrote and submitted 2 articles a keyword optimized articles to EZA each week (and honestly, 2 articles a week is hardly hard work - many harcore article marketers submit 2-5 articles a day to article directories).

Just that type of consistent work would result in 100+ articles in a years time. And with proper keyword phrase targeting, that should be proding a fair amount of direct traffic and backlink juice.

Hard Work Pays Off

This is the lesson that those who are struggling should take to heart. Being poor sucks. Trust me, I totally understand that. But if you truly want a way to stop struggling and start making a consistent amount of income online, you need to commit to putting in the work required, even if you don't see the results right away.

Don't say: "I'm going to try article marketing."

Do say: "I am going to try article marketing by throwing up a quick blog and then committing to write and submit 20 keyword optimized articles over the next 2 months."

The question everyone should ask themselves is this: if you aren't happy with the amount of income you make on a monthly basis online, can you honestly say that you are working hard enough?

And I don't want to come off as preachy. I have my own ups and downs. Sometimes I get lazy and when I do, my income inevitably goes down.

If I want to make more, I have to work harder. That's just the reality. You work hard now, earn more, and then be able to outsource the "hard work".

But if you are having trouble making money online, especially your first dollar, I suggest that you truly analyze if you are putting in the required work . Are you really working hard enough?

Much Success,

KateD

Thanks a lot. this is really inspiring. It is really true that before starting or expecting something you should analyze yourself. And see how much you are dedicated to your work.

I highly suggest that you set your goals first and work with full dedication and devotion.

I certainly agree. I think those who have been saying this line were actually not focused enough on the IM aspect of their lives, that is why they did not have much success when they got involved. Its not easy to start off at first but once you get the ball rolling, it becomes a roller-coaster ride after that. You can see an example of my latest PayPal screenshot that proves you can make money online if you are willing to work for it.

I agree. It all comes down to putting in those hours of hard work. You can't spend an hour on something, then expect to make millions. You need to be working through the night all the time, not stopping until you succeed.

So right KateD. You have to really ask yourself if you worked "hard enough" to succeed. You might of worked hard, but was it really enough. Can you justify in your head that you gave it 100%. If not, you didn't work hard.

I worked hard for many years and it was only a few years back that I decided to actually think about what I was doing and leverage things and work a little smarter.

I do bang in the hours but then its not actually hard work any more.... I dont even call it work...lol

I actually totally disagree with this.

Work smarter, think more and plan better, then you take less mad actions that cost you time, money and energy.

    Just working harder is nuts.

I would not ask anyone if they thought they were working hard enough.

    1. Do they have goals and steps to achieve them - a clear path.
    2. Do they have the skills and tools and can they use them
    3. Do they know their and strengths and weaknesses.
    4. Have they got encouragement from those around them.

If you nail that lot well, then you will get a lot further than just going for it. The reason most people fail to make money online is that they ready, fire aim.

I agree, often times it is the people that have a clear vision of what they want and know exactly what they have to do to make it happen. I have personally found that the best things for me to do is to have people that will hold me accountable. When you have a good coach that you can associate with, it will take years off of the learning curve.

The problem with that is for marketers to truly know how to "work smarter", they first have to gather the experience to know what that means by working hard at it at first.

What good is making a plan if you never put in the work to make it succeed?

Trust me, I'm all for outsourcing, automation, software, and other tools and options to work smarter. But the people who fail to generate a consistent online income suffer more from a lack of honest effort rather than a detailed plan to follow.

There are probably hundreds of plans to follow on this very forum. And many of them are brilliantly presented, detailed step by step, the whole ball of wax. All people need to do is follow the plan.

And that's where most people fail miserably. They just don't work hard enough to see the results of their efforts, and quit prematurely, long before any profit could be made.

Do you believe that if you want something bad enough you will succeed? Or is there a subconscious thing (something Eben Pagan talks alot about) that keeps us/keeps ourselves from success?

Are you really working hard enough?
When I first started in IM I thought I was "working" when I was really just reading forums and ebooks on making money. When I finally stopped with that mentality I started making some money by actually working.

It's really not that hard to do the work either as long as you have some sort of plan and you focus. I just pumped out 10 articles on EZA in under 2 hours to try out a new niche. Anyone else could have done what I did in less time, but I also do keyword research beforehand. I think you have to ask yourself if you're really focusing while you're working or not.

Time does not equal productivity. And productivity does not equal success.

Productivity + Proven Plan = Profit

    That's what I've learned.

What I've experienced... is when a persons finds a niche or category that you are really good at... and build on that.

Finding the right products/programs and targeting the right keywords are the two things that most Internet or affiliate marketers do wrong or don't know how to do.

A small percentage of affiliates who know how to do these things are making BIG money!

    Find Your Niche!!

    Best to ya!

This is oh so true. I recently made a post about this on my blog. People put in 2 hours of work and then give up cause they don't see results. This is a business and it must be treated as such. You get out what you put in.

This is such a great forum. Some of the worst advice I got years ago when I started this journey was to stay far away from the Warrior Forum. I shouldn't have listened.

Lots of great conversations and sharing going on here.

I want to offer some insight based on my own path. First, some analysis: Marketing online is very hard. Yet, it's also very easy.

I run a martial arts school. Through learning how to run a 'brick and mortar' business, I had to learn about marketing.

I got into Dan Kennedy first. From there, through several degrees of separation, found my way to the world of online marketing.

I ran a school that was grossing half a million dollars a year. Not bad for a small martial arts school. So I figured how hard could this info marketing thing be.

I bought some ebooks, setup a website, made a product, did affiliate marketing, etc. It was the most expensive year I ever had. Sunk a lot of time and money into it.

The more I tried, the more I failed. The more I failed, the more I kept trying because I don't give up. The more I failed and tried, the more money I spent on new ideas and the more I fell into the next big thing to overnight millions trap.

It wasn't until I sat back and said to myself, why am I failing at creating an online business when I am so successful at building a offline business.

Then it dawned on me. I wasn't following any of the practical business methods I used in my offline business. Such as, create a vision for what you want the business to be.

If I had done that single thing, I wouldn't have jumped from project to project. And I wouldn't have started projects without thinking about what I really wanted my business to look like in 6 months, one year, 2 years, 5 years.

I didn't have a trusted adviser like I did with my martial arts school. With that, I found mentors who were where I wanted to be. I learned and listened and took action on the things they showed me were important to take action on.

Before long, I was in trade magazines and speaking at industry conferences. But in the world of IM I was a failure.

Now I employ the tried and true, albeit often boring and mundane, tools that I use in my martial arts school. I have goals, I have a company vision, I have advisers, I have a plan, I have measures. etc.

Great book to read about the fundamentals: The E-myth.

    Thanks for listening.

I agree completely. If you are new to IM and haven't made your first dollar yet then it's extremely important to start with the basics and make it work. I wouldn't have any success without the failures I had starting out.

I think most will not take action because they try out a plan that involves a lot of experience to succeed with. This is why there are a plethora of detailed questions from those who haven't tried anything because most feel they need to perfect a method/plan before they even do any actual work to make their efforts better.

A lot will try to find out how they can milk out every penny possible from a method, but then fail to take the action necessary to really learn the basics.

I found the lessons I learned from failing were far more rewarding and profitable for me than reading any $27,$47,$97 "method" and not having any previous experience with it to work off of.

      Hey...

I totally agree with your points. Many people are looking for the "perfect plan" to get them to financial riches. And so they wait...and then buy some more ebooks....then wait some more.

There are no perfect plans. And although having a clear plan will help you get to your destination quicker, you still need to start moving your feet to get there.

A treasure map itself is just a piece a paper with squiggles on it. In order to get to the treasure chest, you are going to have to do a bunch of digging (ie. hard work).

      So start digging.....
