Was wondering if a .com website compared to a .info website has a different effect on the search engines?

From my experience you should have no trouble with .com, .net or .org as far as the search engines go, but I am not sure about .info Also most people tend to look at .com because that is what they are used to.

You should definitely go for .com. Because it's more reliable and familiar for most people.

From a SEO point of view it doesn't matter much..

Here's a long article I wrote about it: Earn Online Cash with .Info Domains

Basically, it makes no difference at all to Google which domain extension you use. For other purposes, there may be differences that you have to consider.

If you are building a long term business site that you hope will be word of mouth and or want return visitors to your site, go with the .com, .net, or .org....preferably the .com because that is what people remember more often. If you are just looking for an seo name that the search engines will pick up on and the traffic will all be driven by other and it will most likely be a one time sale, it doesn't matter what you use as long as it's keyword optimized.

    .info work great with redirects

.com works a lot better if you expect visitors to type it into a browser address bar.

When I want to SEO something I avoid .info. I have had good experiences with the other extensions, not with .info.
Again, this is just my own opinion based on my own experiences.

Search engines don't care. Go Google "craft ideas" and you'll see CraftIdeas.info is the number one site and CraftIdeas.com is the number two site.

The perception among humans is that .com is better, but to the search engines, pfft.
