Hi.

Apologies for asking a dumb question.

But...

If I am creating a review type site for say vaccum cleaners, is it ok to list the different manufacturers as a menu option and write a few reviews on their products, or would I need to get the permission from these companies just to mention and write about them?
(Just wondering, I know its against trade mark ,etc if I was to register a domain name with a company name in it)

Thanks!

Jim.

    Jim,

You can certainly write about them, create pages on your website using the brand as the title for the page, and use the names in the menus if you want.

You're correct that TLDs are out of bounds, but what you would be doing with the above actions should be OK.

If you want to use pictures of the products, either take them yourself, have them taken, or get permission from the product owner (mfr). Pictures are copyrighted. If you are giving positive revues you may not attract any heat if you take the images from the products' website, but if you take them from a competitor, a distributor, or another review site you may ruffle some feathers. Use good judgement.

Just don't write anything that is slanderous, reasonably untrue yet stated as fact, or outright lies. You don't want to go looking for trouble.

    Hardly a dumb question...
