How to transfer a paypal email address?

Hi there

The idea is to build a membership site but If I want to sell the site with the members using paypal subscription, how can I transfer that to the new owner? Do I remove that email and get the new owner to "add" that paypal email address. This is because the members would have used THAT email to subscribe monthly.

    Short answer is you can't. Paypal expressly forbids transferring an account to someone else.

    There is only one way to legally do it and it's pretty involved. You have to create a corporation and sign up for a PayPal account under the corporation name, and verify the account with the corporation bank account. Then when you want to sell the membership you sell the entire corporation wich will include the bank account and PayPal account.

    You still have to also get special permission from PayPal to do the account transfer though.

      Even that might not work. I have a limited company as well as trading as a sole trader. I have a business PayPal account, and wanted to get a PayPal account for my company as well, but PayPal would only agree if I either a) shut down my PayPal account or b) did not have access to the company PayPal account. In the end I opened an account with 2checkout.com for the company site.

    Yeah this was a bit of a bummer when I sold my membership sites last year. I had to cancel everyone's subscription from my paypal account
