Who can you thank today?

Howdy Warriors!

I've noticed a nice little trend recently...

And that is...

People starting threads in a more positive vein.

Another way that we can all work to make the WF even better (I know that's barely possible, but humor me) is by using the Thanks button more often.

I hear somebody in the background objecting with, "But there's so much junk here!"

The solution is to ACTIVELY look for posts that are worth clicking the Thanks button for. You see, the WF will only get better if we make it happen. Sitting back bemoaning it's demise (imaginary or otherwise) does nothing to make it better.

So...

Who can you thank today?

Thanks,
Michael

p.s. There is a limit to how many people you can thank per day. So if the Thanks button seems to disappear, don't worry, it just means you have done a really good job of thanking your fellow Warriors.

    Hi Michael,

I think the first person that should be thanked is "you." Through all your trials and tribulations you have continued to be a positive and driving force on this forum.

I read all your posts and have followed some of your advice. You are a pillar of strength here.

Keep on going and giving---> you are great!!

Yeah, your post is just a trick to get people to thank you. :p

    It worked on me though.

Seriously though, it isn't like a "thank you" costs you money. Generosity of spirit is a very good character trait to cultivate.

      Or...

Maybe it's a trick to make it easier for me to thank a whole bunch of great people in one thread.

      Thanks,

Not only does hitting "Thanks" not cost you anything, I think it can help you. I won't name any names, of course, but if you pay close attention you will see that there is a definite correlation between how liberal a Warrior is with the old Thanks button (as in hitting it) and how many others seem to like them and value their input. Not how often THEY are thanked, but rather how often they do the thanking. Food for thought.

      Mike,

I was going to thank you for the post but I don't want you to get a swelled head.

If too many folks start thanking you it's possible you'll begin to believe you're a worthwhile member and solid contributor.

Even worse, other members may begin to believe the same of you.

Once that happens you'll feel obligated to contribute more than you currently do.

Before long we'll see your name on several front page posts and people will begin to think you're a big deal or, worse yet, some kind of Gooroo...

Once that happens the trolls, bashers and naysayers will come out in droves and you'll feel, as others before you, obligated to leave WF.

So, on behalf of us wishing you to hang around WF for a while longer, kindly accept my lack of "Thanks".

    Michael,

You are correct. The forum gets better as those who appreciate it, as you obviously do, not only hit the report button on the bad posts but support the good posts at the same time.

Notice I said bad posts and good posts, not bad guys and good guys. I think many posts are made by ones who mean well but just don't "get" this place yet. Your suggestion of positive reinforcement of the good is a great point.

Thank you for shining a light on this fact.

    Thank you.

I always love to watch the percentage of Thanks, Thanked, and Posts people have. It is one of the best ways to quickly determine how active, and how trustworthy a person is on WF.

Just look at the names of the 4 people right here in this thread with over 500 THANKED votes, they are all high quality contributors, and if you look at the other statistic, they are also prolific Thankers

One thing to note about the percentage is that all of the old timers have a number of posts on the old forum, and weren't able to be thanked for those posts.

So some of the bigger/long term contributors may have only been eligible to be thanked on a small percentage of total posts.

Very, very true - great points here. I've not been posting for long but I've already seen many fantastic posts - sometimes posts that do nothing more than just make me laugh or cheer me up - that I want to say thanks for. After all, it doesn't cost anything but a milisecond of time, but it can make a real difference to a community like this.

A collective "thanks" to all of you.

I wanted to add that there is another type of post I will click the Thanks button for. When somebody disagrees with me, or vice-versa, and makes me think, I find that a worthy reason to click.

It's easy to thank people that agree with you and make you feel better. It's usually not as easy to be grateful to those who take a contrary positions to your own.

    Thanks,

    Michael,

The busier I am, the more I hit the "Thanks" button rather than reply.
Also, when I don't have much time those posts whose title lets me know
if it is in my area of interest. I thank them also.

    Hi, Michael.

    THANK YOU...for this post.

And to answer your question, I always thank the following:

    1) GOD everyday for allowing me to wake up to experience life's joys, blessings, and shortcomings. Anything is better than being 6 feet under...

    2) People in general that do something to help me...

Look at my threads I start on here. I THANK PEOPLE that respond to my threads...unless, of course, the response is insulting or condescending.

I just wanted to clarify something.

I am by no means saying that the Thanks button is the only way to show gratitude. If a post warrants more than a simple "thank you", go ahead and respond with a post of your own.

And a quick reminder, there are ALWAYS posts YOU can find that are worthy of clicking the Thanks button for.

    All the best,
    Michael

    Nice post Michael.

It definitely makes you feel good when you see your post has helped someone out there.

And on the other side, it can bring a new marketer down when they believe they gave good info and didn't receive any thanks.

      Hi Travis,

      Amen!

It drives me nuts when someone asks a question; I give a detailed, well tought out response; and the person who asks seems to evaporate off the face of the planet. No thanks (not that that's WHY I give the answer), no posts afterwards, no nothin'!

But, I guess that's one of the reasons why I started this thread. WE can make an EFFORT to purposefully seek out people and posts that we can thank.

That's the best thing, in my opinion, that we can do to take care of the problem of non-gratitude.

      All the best,

Amen to that! There are a few people on these forums that, if I see their name as the last comment or having started the thread, I'll click to read even if the topic itself doesn't interest me because these people often give me something to think about.

It's funny how some folks want the answers given to them all the time, while others want to be inspired to think rather than to be told what to think.
