Are You One Of These People?

I was wondering what the deal is with those people that feel compelled to jump into a thread that they say "has been asked a hundred times already".

If you see a thread title that you find boring, stupid, mundane, been asked too many times...then please, keep on truckin'

Why do you have to stop and post crap like "oh my God this has been asked a million times already", "Do a search. This has already been answered", "Here's the thread that answers this question"...

One of my favorites is "I'm so tired of having to come in here and explain it again..."

News flash dude, we didn't elect you the resident expert in whatever it is that is wearing you out. Do yourself, and us a favor and give it a break. Go rest. Sounds like you need it. I know we do.

What do you think the point of that is? I don't get it. Are you trying to show everyone else how informed you are? They are idiots? Stupid? What?

The truth is that most of the questions being asked have been answered long before you showed up. There wouldn't be much of a forum left if our answer to everything was "use the search".

We didn't ask you to come in here and help us save the system form being overloaded because of "stupid" questions.

If that is your concern, that the system is being overloaded, then don't you think that your "use the forum search" post just contributed to the overload. Or are you different?

Funny, we jump on newbies when they try that one liner stuff but nobody calls out the "do a search" one liners.

The point of the forum is to allow folks to ask questions and learn from Warrior members. To interact with members and have a better experience than typing in Google.

It also allows other Warrior members who choose to help the "idiots" as you say, to develop relationships which many times lead to J.V.s and sometimes partnerships.

The next time you see a thread that you don't want to participate in then please keep moving along. Don't stop in long enough to tell us how stupid you think we are.

If you really want a place where people spend most of their time searching then go back to Google.

I'd guess we all come up a little short of ideal once in a while. It's good to have a reminder now and then. One of the most important character traits a person can exercise on forums is humility...that is, if you want to get along with most people and build a good reputation.

    Right on Matt,

Making new members feel bad for asking a question that they could search is a sure way to have a dead forum.

I believe that every thing possible has already been covered here. It would be sad to insist that questions could not be asked more than 1, 2, 3 or even 100 times.

Carrying the "search it stupid" scenario farther, Google covers everything on the WF and off too. Really, every answer to every question ever asked could be found on Google.

Hey Matt, great reminder that we all had questions at
      one time or the other.

And getting new members is the life blood of any forum.

Things online change so fast, by the time you answered
the question 2 weeks ago, the answer to the question
      could have changed.

I like reading the threads and seeing new answers and
      new members answering ht equestions.

      Let the newbies learn.

George, if this were our forum, you and I would be pissed if people were in here running off new members.

So would just about anyone else if it were their forum. Why anyone would think that it's ok to run off Allen's members.

      What does that mean?

That someone can tell you to quit asking stupid questions and that's fine but when another person with the same privileges makes a response in a thread that's not fine?

Now that, sounds more like it.

lol.. the person you described in your original post... announces that they're in charge, they're here to solve the problem/answer the question/self-appointed to be the delegator of all knowledge and framework of how a forum operates. They're taking time out of their busy universe to explain how stupid of a question this is and answer it for the 100,000th time.

They are usually the easiest to get bent out of shape on a discussion forum because they are self-aggrandizing, ego centrists who take themselves far too seriously. I love to troll those types.

Here is what Allen Says wrote in his book The Secrets Of An Internet Marketing Warrior

Although 99.9% of the marketing books you read will be re-hashed from, built upon and around those basic concepts - it's still ok!

    Here's why...

You can buy one person's book and it may do nothing for you. You can turn right around and buy another book from a different person on the exact same subject and it blows you away with new ideas and excitement.

The book that did nothing for you might make me rich. The book that you loved may not do anything for me at all. You and I will get totally different things out of the exact same book.

That's why it's ok to have people that are re-writing the same information in a 1000 different ways.

Let's say someone created the Ultimate Million Dollar book and all you had to do was read this book to become a millionaire. But, there was only ONE book. Only this one person could write about it. Well, what if you couldn't understand that one book?

Nobody else could re-write it. You had to read that book and understand it or you would lose out. Wouldn't that suck?

If the book was that good and you could not understand it or for some reason the author just didn't connect with you, wouldn't you want someone else to re-write it in a way that would connect with you so you could profit from it?

I would. I would want 10 people to re-write just so I would be damn sure to get in on the action.
I think Allen said it all there.

Hey Matt, thanks for posting that! I've been on the fence about finishing up an ebook I've been writing, wondering if my particular take on the subject is worth putting out there. I really needed to see that quote, and once I read through it I realized how silly it was for me to be concerned about the ebook.

Michael, LOL I'm sorry. I'm in defense mode.

I'm expecting the same people that would jump down someone's throat for asking a question to come in here and give it to me.

It also doesn't help that I title a thread Are You One Of These People. Pretty big finger pointing.
    But, it's a rant piece

I've noticed that not a whole lot of people here ever make mistakes. They pretty much fight to the death over something they said rather than admit they were mistaken or worse, wrong.

The only reason that I know anything at all is because I've been wrong so many times, I know what it looks like

Matt, for what it's worth, I don't mind answering the same questions all the
        time.

I haven't forgotten what it was like to be new, confused and lost.

I can still relate to these people who are starting from square one so I have
        no problem helping them.

Having said that, I have no tolerance for people who do IM for a day and
start complaining that it's a scam because they didn't make any sales yet.

Building a business takes time and these new folks need to be told that.

Even if it means being a little rough with them.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents on the subject.

I agree that if we are answering the so called "stupid" questions then it must be ok with us.

Then I get a little bit offended too along the person that is told to do a search.

It's like we are all at your house having a dinner party and talking and getting to know one another when someone walks through the door and tells us that our conversions are boring. That we should all talk about something new because they are tired of our subject.

Just to play devil's advocate here...

A lot of members come onto the forum to mine the nuggets of information they can find.

I guess they find it incredibly frustrating to have to trawl the repeated questions on a constant basis to do so.

Once of the most frustrating questions ever asked (I think anyway), is "how to make money online" especially when you see the same tired old stock answers being given all the time. It's especially annoying when they have the answer in their sig lol

Kim, I hear you and there are plenty of threads that I'm not interested in, or if I see three of them (threads) all asking the same thing then I'll go into the one with the views.

If we don't want two or three of the same threads on the front of the board then if we don't jump in and post a one liner the thread will fade off the front page.

So for those folks that are tired of seeing these they are also contributing to the thread staying up there by making a post in it.

      John,

If you had taken the time to use the search function you'd have seen that you already posted this reply to another thread.

You're practically a God around here, and if you can't lead by example, how do you expect mere mortals to know how to act.

In the future I suggest you simply copy/paste the link to your response to this thread, or the previous similar posts to previous similar threads in order to maximize the effeciency of responding to threads with a similar response to similar threads with similar responses.

Failure to do so may cause the need to reduce your status from Zues66 to a lower number such as Zues33 or perhaps even the dreaded Zues11. I stongly suggest you consider the ramifications of your actions and the effects those ramifications have on the effects of the ramifications that are effecting those ramifications.

I hope I made my point clear.

If there is a major thread with great answers on the topic being asked about, I think it's very helpful to give a link to that thread. Sorry you don't approve, but oh well....

Those who say "Do search" are implying it works.
The advanced search works well when using keywords found in titles. When someone asks a basic IM question that has just been widely discussed a few days before - the person tells everyone "I haven't been reading anything here but...."

Thanks Matt, you stated my sentiments exactly.

There is an old quote that says "There is nothing new under the sun".

However, I don't believe it is telling you to go into shelter in the shade and stay out of the sun. If that were the case, we would still be living in the same culture as King Solomon, and IM would'nt exist at all.

The IM arena is always changing, just as "the times are always changing", so if I needed a "timely" answer, did a search and found an "out of times" thread that mentions nothing about the newest trend in IM, I would be stupid if I didn't ask the question.

If I did a search and couldn't find the newest trend at all, I would be stupid to not ask the question.

So, who is the stupid one here? Just askin'...

I'm guilty of pasting links to threads to answer questions, usually to "how to make quick cash" threads. I've never thought it was a negative because there's a goldmine of information in older threads from members who don't post anymore.

When I used to help my kids with their homework I didn't tell them the answers, I told them how to find the answer. Sure, it annoyed them at the time but they're better off for it now. I must be missing the "running people off" threads because from what I see this forum is far more tolerant than any non-im forum I frequent.

I agree with that too. I like to send people to threads when I know there are some really good explanations and somebody who knows more about it than most.

But you know the people I'm talking about. They have an attitude about the whole thing. Like we are wasting their time. We drew them into a stupid discussion that they shouldn't have to answer anymore.

Yes there are some threads that of each of us is tired of seeing but just stay out of the thread.

If I answered a "stupid " repetitive question last year ... does my answer always remain the same .

If ask what the best part of the WF was 6 months ago, I would have stated the information, war room, or ... well you know .

Ask me today and I will tell you it is no doubt the relationships you can forge here .

Information I thought was gold six months ago is embedded in my systems now and are basically old hat. I find myself looking for new twist more than new information.

Interacting with other Warriors ... that's the true gold here .

"Yes, but if I'm writing an article on building a boat when would I..." "it's in the list".

      That was for the newbies

LOL That was a good one.

To the OP, no, I'm not one oth those people. I will generally answer the question, or refer them to a good thread on the subject. Sometimes though, people do ask very broad questions, and they really should search a bit to narrow it down a bit to something more specific. I generally don't respond if I think I'm going to have to write a book to answer the question.

I like that line. You just made your way into my personal collection of quotations. It could find its way into my newsletter someday. You'll be famous! Maybe not what you want to be known for, but hey, we don't get to choose which words bring the world to our feet.

So you fish like I do - you catch 'em, then tell 'em "just kidding" and put 'em back.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

LOL Troy, that was funny. I knew there was a reason I liked you.

Hey Dennis, yes I'm a regular Sam Clemens. Same mouth but without the fame

Maybe not what you want to be known for, but hey, we don't get to choose which words bring the world to our feet.
John (McCabe) be careful, there is a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like you're lost.
