Engineering Commitment

I'm sure many warriors have read some of the books written by Robert Cialdini.

I was thinking about one of his elements of influence last night - that being "commitment and consistency". (I won't cover what it is and the ramifications because I'm sure most people understand it)

It got me thinking about how to better create those, and here are the two initial things that I came up with:

1. Surveys. I think this is what some of the guru's are doing with their surveys (Well, I DID say that's what I wanted - Since I said I wanted it I must really want it and since I really want it I should buy it now that he's offering me this deal).

2. Tesimonials. I recently offered something free in exchange for an (honest) review of a product of mine. I got a ton of them... Over 100.

I'm guessing that having people write testimonials about your past work and it's quality or how they gained value from it increases the commitment and consistency - i.e. "I wrote that dude X was awesome and his stuff really brings value to me, and it's up there with my photo on the internet."

Do you think that a person who wrote a favorable or even glowing testimonial would be more likely to buy something from you?

And I don't just mean because they DID find value - but would there be a measurable increase in sales that's specifically attributable to having someone write a testimonial or a favorable review?

The more I think about it, the more the answer seems like "yes". I'll probably make another big offer in a month or two in exchange for reviews to my list when I'm ready to sell something new, but am interested in other peoples thoughts on this.

Thanks
