hi,

i think i heard jeff johnson say he uses different hosting accounts for different websites because just in case if one goes down, you are still safe....especially if you have a whole bunch of websites...

do u guys do this? and if so, what are the web hosts that you use?

I was wondering the same thing. Someone told me it's best to buy different hosting for different niches. I don't really see why when I can host hundreds of domains on one hosting.

I'm sure why you would use different hosting depending on niche,
      But...

      I have 2 hosting accounts.

      I started with 1and1.
They provided a free CD with Net Objects Fusion. The best and easiest WYSIWYG editor I've seen.
And, Photo Impact which is just as good and compatible with Photoshop.

They also include many other free services and software.
And, their customer service is second to none.

And, their prices on Domains are the best. Cheapdomains and Godaddy included. $6.99 for .com and .net

      However, they don't use cpanel.

      That's why I have Hostgator.

I use Hostgator exclusively for Fantastico.

      However...

I've been hearing some very good things about Bluehost.

If that was a problem then you would have the same issue with any kind of shared hosting. I've heard this one before, it's just the usual chinese whispers that end up as myths.

As cheap as hosting is I believe that having more than one so they can back each other up is a very good idea. You need to make sure that they are located in different datacenters to be effective. It is one of those things like insurance, you pay for years and never use it but when something happens you are glad you have it.

It's smart to have your websites spread out. Imagine having all your income producing sites with one host and then BAM... one day they all go down. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to be in that situation.

Another thing everyone should do is take backups often. Things happen and its better to be prepared at all times.

    Hosts I use:

    WiredTree.com
    Lunarpages.com
    Hostgator.com

I personally just host all of my sites under one account.

I do use different hosts for multiple sites. I also can link them together for backlinks since they all have different IPs as well

I use 1and1 and BlueHost. I like the BlueHost interface much more than 1and1. But, I like to spread things out, just in case.

I'm working on some new things. So, nothing to promote just yet.

I have run my own web hosting company for 7 years now and even I have web hosting plans with other companies.

I like to keep my network separated so that just incase google gets any funny ideas of trying to connect my sites together.

This is a theory of mine - no clue whether its right or wrong, but i'd rather be on the safe side and pay an extra $50/m to for extra hosting plans.

Having them on different datacenters + using private domain registration is my solution to that.

Absolutely! I've been preaching this for a couple years now. I have my sites spread out among four hosts. If one host goes down, I've still got 75% of my sites still in business. If one host goes down and is going to be down a while I can upload it to one of my other hosts and change the DNS and be right back in business. If one host gets hacked, and that's happened before, they can only mess up the sites on one host, the rest are safe.

I didn't always do this. I learned the hard way when I had all my eggs in one basket and my site was hacked. It's cheaper to pay for a few hosting accounts than it is to be out of business for a while, at least it is for me.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.
