Help I think I've Designed My Blog Site Wrong

Hello fellow warriors, I'm new to the IM world, actually I started off with a blog just to track my progress of this IT certification I was taking. After I was getting a small amount of traffic (between 20-150 views a day) I figured I could monetize the small traffic in some way and that's how I ran into IM. I received a few comments that I should create study material to help future test takers pass the exam that I've studied for and blogged about so that's what I did!

I have my product finished and even created a website for it ( configurethenetwork dot com) But honestly I have no clue what I'm doing. I managed to get one sale so far since I've created the site last week. I've been watching and tracking the site with Google Analytics but I just don't know if I should set this site up as a simple blog site with articles and list my product somewhere or keep as it is like a pseudo sales page.

Before I released my eBook last week I had a smaller free version that I managed to get about 700 people to download and in retrospect I wish I would of created a mailing list that I'm reading about on here. I lost about 700 potential customers right off the bat I think I did however create a smaller mailing list before i had any type of product or website that i managed to get 150 people to sign up for. I sent them a newsletter about my eBook but none of the sales converted yet. I'm just kinda of lost right now, I know the product and the market is there I just need a little push in the right direction.

My blog website with my product is configurethenetwork dot com

My personal blog website that I used for my study material is shawnmoorecisco blogspot dot com

Any help and CONSTRUCTIVE critism would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi

I think I can understand your situation. Here is my suggestion:

I think that your site is a wordpress site right? because some of your link started with wp-content... now you need to do several things:

    - Install all in one seo plugin, set your title, description and keywords properly. make sure you include keywords like CCNA or networking or something like that. If you don't know the keyword, go to Google keyword tools.

    - I will say that you should treat your website to be a complete mini sales page site. In other words, you just need one post (the sales post) to sell the product.

    - Based on the above point, your "free lab book preview" post should be removed. Just hide it but NOT delete it, and use the content of that post to make a pop-up window (I forgot the name, but I mean the one that DOES NOT open a new browser window. the "in-window" one) and promote your free lab book with an opt-in form.

    - Write 2 - 3 autoresponder messages: your message should contain something useful to your subscribers, such as talking about how to participate in CCNA, tips on CCNA and so on. And at the end of each email, say something like: all remaining details are in my book "XXX", please go to my site <configurethenetwork dot com> for more information. And just my own opinion, the time interval of each message can be 3 - 4 days. But you can test it.

    - Now your sales site is ready, we can talk about promotion. It is already great for you to have your own blogspot.com site. The next step would be to write articles (long or short) and post it regularly to your blog.

    - At the top of every post, put a self-draw banner. You can outsource it using the warrior forum.

    - In the end of every post of yours, try to mention 1 - 2 lines about your book, and give a link to your sales page.

    - About promotion: I saw that you have facebook a/c and blogspot follower, it is a good start. You can also make use of twitter and put a link of your twitter to your blog.

    - Start contributing to CCNA-related forum, and create a signature that pointing BOTH your blog and your sales website.

    - Submit RSS of your blog and sales page to blog directories and rss directories (you can learn how to promote your website by going to How To Make Money By.COM,Make Money Online,Work At Home and download the free report).

Continue to promote your sales page and you are good to go.

I hope these little tips can help you out. But frankly, I think you have already had a good start. Keep going, man.

Amazing info "alucard001" I'm going to start implementing the things you've mentioned tonight after work (working 12 hour shifts is a bear)! I honestly hate having to create posts on forums that's probably been mentioned 1000 times before but I'm learning that IM is so vast with so many variables there's no one right formula to create and sale your product.

Shawn, this may be slightly off-topic, but if more newbie-type folks asked their questions the way you did, more of them would get the kind of detailed, helpful answer you got.

      > You clearly spelled out what you wanted to accomplish.
      > You also spelled out the steps you had already taken.
      > You were specific about the information you were seeking.

Contrast that with a much more common post, along the lines of:

"I got a new blog and a ebook. How do I make money?"

      Nicely done, friend...

Thanks for the encouragement "JohnMcCabe"! I implemented the first few changes, I've installed an all in-one seo plugin (fantastic!) that was basically plug in play. This will be great as I've found a site that grades your current SEO score and traffic design and i scored a measily 54 out of 100 so I've got some work to do haha. I've also set my second post for my free lab preview to hidden and the site looks a lot cleaner now.

The idea to create a opt-in for the free eBook is a genius idea I'm going to spend some time figuring out how to get it to work on my next day off becuase it's going to take some time, concentration and frustration to figure it out (I have almost 0 programming experience).

I'm also learning about this auto-responder that I hear about so much I didn't know what it was until I started paying attention to the emails I would get e.i. 30DC that always came at a certain time everyday. I had one of those AHA! moments and realized that those 30DC emails is exactly what an auto-responder is.

I forgot to mention that I've been doing some article marketing on Ezine as well over the past few weeks and I'm going to start planning on submitting 5 articles a week (currently submitting 3). I'm super excited to keep things moving, while I haven't had much success yet I know persistence is key and I'm going to commit at LEAST 6 months of pluggin away at this one product first before moving on to my next goal, Affiliate Marketing. I plan on funding a LLC for my Affiliate Marketing company from the revenue I make from my product.

    More updates to follow cheers!

Hey all just a quick little update, after spending a few days implementing "alucard001" changes for my website, I increased my sales from 1 sale to 8 sales after just 3 days! Thanks so much, I should have my professional video complete for my site this week and I will now spend the bulk of my time marketing and testing, the fun part!

    Cheers,

Good job, and thanks for the update.

So many times, people (and not just new folks) will post questions and get a lot of good feedback and advice, and then we never hear from them again. At least, not until they have another question.

Warriors, if someone gives you good advice and you get good results, don't be afraid to post an update and thank them...

hey shawn, I checked out your website, and your video looks quite professional. How much did you spend on that?

I'm asking because your price seems to be super low. It would be hard to recoup the money. Also, internet marketers usually charge $7 or $17 or $47 for your product. I think your $9.95 is way too cheap.

I'm not an expert on copywriting, but you can get some tips from others on how to improve your salesletter. It seems rather bare to me. Think of all the benefits your product can help others to ace their exam.

Bump up your offer by using camtasia or camstudio to teach people how to do the coding or whatever instead of just writing the ebook.
