AHHH CRAP! Always Test Your Autoresponder Messages!!

Whoops...

Just sent out an email today to 4000 people with the name (firstname)....

The day you don't test your Aweber emails, is the day you do something stupid like that.

So, just a friendly reminder to always test your emails before blasting them out to everyone and embarrassing yourself!

    Yup, a handy tip.

I always send a test email to myself before broadcasting. I think I forgot doing that once and sent the {!firstname_fix} thing to like ~500 people, LOL.

I do not opt-in to list ... Don;t care what you offer me. But I have bought some things that like auto adds me to some list. I just unsubscribed from 2 of those yesterday and today because I got 6 emails each with the stupid {first name} then {firstname_fix} then {I'm Sorry} and then {James Stein} <-- got that 3 times.

So needless to say these 2 that I have ordered from before will no longer be able to send me email... The above is not just a dumb mistake, heck we all make mistakes. The above is down right stupidity..

Steve, you're an online marketer. That means you must be absolutely perfect. This mistake you made is unacceptable. And because of it, I'll never buy anything from you, ever. If I was on your list, I would have unsubscribed and told everyone what a scam you're running.

Ohhh, JUST KIDDING. But some folks do get up in arms when marketers make mistakes. Guess they forget we're human, too.

    Cheers,
    Becky

Thanks Becky, the way I had my browser set, I didn't see the bottom part of your post. I was about to cry!

    LOL

But yeah, we'll see how many unsubscribe today from this mistake... lol.

Don't beat yourself up. We all make mistakes and as long as you are providing them value I think they will overlook it.

    Hi Steve,

Send an "Oops! I got your name wrong" e-mail.

That's much better than an "Oops! Sent the wrong link."

Just kidding, but maybe you could build off of your mistake. In the next message (whenever it's sent) tell them you know you made a mistake, how it would bother you if you were called "firstname" and then give them a special deal of some kind.

    Or...

Tell them if you make the mistake again they can get one of your products for free.

Anyway, the point is that this oops is an opportunity in disguise. An OOPSORTUNITY???

    All the best,
    Michael

      Hi Steve,

It is a mistake, naturally. It isn't a lucky case, and it is necessary to learn from if occurred once.

But ... if the sender confesses that he made a mistake and try to do his best to remedy that, then this may make his relationship better with the reader.

Why? Because the recipient (if he has some consideration for himself) knows that he also make mistakes sometimes. Therefore he may be sympathetical with the sender and their relationship may be better.

Your audience perceives that you are just as such a man like they only. In general, people are forgiving. It may occured that some people will unsubscribe. But your relationship will be much better with the remained crowd. And you will be able to sell them next time, too.

Of course, if you make that mistake again, then that may be a 'suicide'.

      All the best,

      Sandor

Why didn't you send another email immediately indicating something like

    - a bonus you left out.

That would have been a double shot at making money and avoiding a lot of self-guilt.

    Cheers,
    John

  • I guess I'm just strange.

I get emails like that all the time
from some of the biggest names
in the business and never pay
    attention to it.

As a marketer, I use autoresponders
daily, and I know how things can go
wrong, usually when I'm in a hurry
    to get something out.

I can't see what the big deal is,
    personally, but some people think
    you've committed heresy if you
    make a mistake.

In the case of multiple sends,
as in getting 3 or more emails
    that are identical, sometimes
    it just happens.

You hit the button, and for some
    reason the server hangs, and
sends out 3, 4, even as many as
6 emails before it stops sending.

    We're dealing with technology, people,
and Murphy's Law IS the rule!

    Anything that can go wrong,
usually will, and at the worst possible
    time!

Hope all works out and I'd say it will. Some understand and some don't.
Just figure a way to play off of it and go on.

I know what you mean Steve. I sent out an email recently with a broken link as I copy and pasted the link from another field within my database. Also, my host somehow changed my outgoing mail limit to 200 from 2,700 per hour so the last few mails I sent out only went to a small percentage of my subscribers. All sorted now though but it is important to check everything first.

don't feel bad, someone named "Jenifer" keeps sending me emails addressed to herself. Not only is it impossible to unsubscribe from her, but I accidentally subscribed to her again under a different account during a giveaway.

Maybe someday she will learn how to use an autoresponder.
