Offline Guru's Retiring?

Anyone else getting a bunch of emails from various Offline Gurus saying they are switching to online marketing or retiring all together. I've seen this 3 times this year alone - not to mention those who claim retirement but still release new stuff.

Interesting.

Has it reached it's peak?

Gurus may be retiring, but true offline marketers will not. Marketing online strategies
to brick and mortar businesses is nothing new. Unfortunately it became a new "trend"
    for info marketers...

BTW. Who's retiring? I must've missed the latest news... :-)

Guess I must not be on the most important lists for offline marketing. I do a hybrid of offline/online marketing all the time. Bottom line who cares? I don't even know what Guru you are talking about, but most Gurus I know only know how to sell shovels to the IM crowd, and very few do any non-Im real world marketing. Who cares? Nothing is dead until it is really dead. How many reports have claimed the death of this or that? Lots, and none of them are dead. Lets let the true dead like Corey Rudl and Gary Halbert rest in peace. This is just a rant, but really how many guru's do you know that have ever really truly retired?

Scarcity Techniques...those rat bass-turd marketers use 'em all the time!

Seriously, who cares what those knucklehead 'gurus' are doing, as long as there is money to be spent there will be opportunity...except after Dec 21, 2012 if you believe all that junk....hee hee

Offline is but one of many avenue's of makin' scratch with the web...let them retire, more room for me!

Hey Tim - do you think this is a (for lack of a better term) "sign of things to come" or more of a trend that will reverse and go the other direction after a while?

(And thanks again for your help with my newsletter list man...results have been awesome!)

No Tim - I've not had a single email like that. Out of curiosity - who is retiring?

You didn't, and won't, get one from this offline guru... oh, wait, did I call myself a guru?

    What's a guru?

Lol! This is exactly why you should continue with your blog Michael and keep it personal, as in my opinion your personality (amongst other things) is a huge asset (as well as being darned entertaining!).

I've not heard from anyone either and am on the list of at least two of said marketers who frequent this forum ... now you have me intrigued.

Thanks, but I can't take credit for my smartassity. I hung out with a bunch of Brits when I was younger and they ruined me. Now I live in rural, Southeast Indiana and try to hide the fact that I actually know words with more than 3 syllables.

        I'm a lonely man.

Basically when the offline 'trend' started a lot of fake offline gurus emerged with copy cat rehashed products.

They built their lists on the back of these rehashed products.

Now they are running out of 'offline ideas' to promote to their list of 'offline info product purchaser'.

So they change their focus - tell their list they are retiring from the offline niche and this opens the doors for them to start promoting online money making methods to their 'offline' list.

I did get one of these kind of emails from one of the leading names in the niche (and, you are right, they continue to pour products out and do not show any signs of "retiring" as stated).

This probably means one of two things, depending on who is "retiring":

    1. It's an outright marketing ploy
    2. The "guru" has milked his/her ability to play in the niche dry (i.e. they are out of content, people willing to adswap, etc).

I'm not a big fan of either scenario.

I haven't seen the actual term "retirement" used, but I have received a couple emails that state that they are switching their newsletters to focus more on Internet Marketing...not a complete retirement from offline.......just a change of focus. We still will receive nuggets of offline information once in a while...

      Ken -

You got the same email. Funny my inbox is full of other offline people telling me they're not going anywhere. They said that they were switching interest but still doing the offline deal as well. Good for them. I can only handle one wife but maybe they can handle both.

There is one person here who was/is retiring to work on projects overseas yet continues to put out WSO's and actually asked to speak at a conference I am helping put together.

Not much of a retirement but things change and maybe they did for him/her.

But I also see that the market is watching and when false claims and promises are made and not kept they know.

My guess is people are finding it harder to shovel crap that is all theory and no meat?

Or they could try to get into the market, see that they have no business being there and get out.

Has what reached its peak exactly?

If you look in most phone books you'll find web design companies.

They've been there for years and they'll be there for years to come.

In that same phone book you'll find quite a few businesses too...lol.

And if you search for those businesses some have websites, some don't.

A high percentage of those websites will not be bringing in significant sales and profits because they're simply not designed to do that.

The percentage of businesses who use any kind of sophisticated online marketing is miniscule.

Yet nearly every business wants to make more sales and profits.

So clearly that hasn't reached a peak.

If you're talking about the junk you see promoted in the niche you can only hope that people will stop trying to sell garbage but I wouldn't bet on it.

One thing people in the niche do know...there's more money in doing it than in selling information about doing it.

Selling your internet marketing services to businesses can pay very well.

        Kindest regards,

          Andrew,

Great points. The offline marketing market has been around for centuries and will continue to be here for centuries.

I've noticed Frank Kern is starting to get his customers physical addresses.

But it's like Gary Halbert said in the past, why does it have to be online or offline.

Each should just be a vehicle for what you are trying to do... and that is make money. If you have something that is successful online try it offline, if you have something successful offline ( salesletter ) try it online.

Why leave money on the table because you are an " online " person or an " Offline " person?
