Will U Guys Welcome "The Road Bandit" Randy for me?

Hey Warriors, friends,

Some of you know that I'm traveling across the United States in a RV randomly seeing and filming stuff. I'm meeting new people, having fun and making money. Many of you probably could care less. Please disregard if that's you.

Anyhow, I'm traveling with a guy who's been on the road for about 2 years. His name is Randy Primm. He goes by the name Road Bandit. Here's his Warrior profile name as seen here...

View Profile: RoadBandit

He's new at the Warrior Forum. Like today new I think.

He totally sucks at marketing and making money. No offense Randy.

He's way too nice, way too easy going, and way out of the loop when it comes to marketing. He needs help. Like Warrior Forum type help. Randy is super eager to learn.

While he may not understand how to run Aweber, build websites, or set up shopping carts, Randy has tremendous talent with video, story telling, and survival in the real world. After all he's been camping out in his RV with his cat for the last 2 years.

I made this post so my friends here would look out for him. Maybe lend a idea or two. Maybe ask him a question about video or editing, etc. He's worked as a cameraman with ESPN, NBA, NFL, Fox News and more. So the guy has some specialized knowledge that people here are probably interested in.

He's got real talent and is a great guy.

He's got a great autobiographical travel website that has a ton of potential. I'm in the middle of helping him create a travel product that will hopefully be able to sustain him financially while on the road.

Any help, ideas, or just normal Warrior good will towards Randy would be greatly appreciated.

I wanted to introduce him, because I figured he probably wouldn't do it himself.

If you see him around, help the guy out with a idea or two. He's the kind of person to pay it back many times over.

Thanks,

J-Mo

      Hey George,

I took many months from doing anything. I had been making money on residual income from past affiliate promotions. I've sold most of my businesses, or have shut the other ones down. I basically have just been chilling and enjoying life and not focusing too much on business.

I have a handful of private coaching clients that I work with, but the bulk of my income just comes from promoting different affiliate offers.

To me it seems a lot easier to find experts that you believe in and promote their products and services instead of putting the workload on your shoulders.

Truthfully though, I'm confused. I have different ideas of what I should be doing every day.

Ideally that's the plan. However when you look at RV and Travel saving sites in Clickbank I don't really see many with significant gravity. It doesn't appear anyone is really crushing it in the RV niche.

So I'm wondering if a bit of repositioning to "Travel" is better than "RV"? We got some killer product stuff that will save people a lot of money on the road. I'm just not seeing a ton of evidence that people are buying this stuff.

I'm also not the kind of person that likes to build businesses online by keyword research. Seriously, I never look at that stuff. I focus on things I love or like to do. If it's interesting to me, I'll build a site about it. Almost all my niche sites are things that I really like to do.

It will be very interesting to see if we can turn this into a $4000 a month business. I have a few ideas that I think will get us there.

Screw ClickBank. There are many other fish. Since your bud is good with video and RV life, instead of info products, how about going other routes. be to shoot high-quality travelogues (Disclaimer: Riley often opens his mouth without having the least idea WTF he is talking about and has only ever been near an RV once when he was at one of those big exhibits in an arena).

Randy. If you want to keep on the road, I'd be looking at something RV related - or North American travel. How about setting up a special site for RVers where they can get good recommendations (from a Road Bandit) on stuff for their RVs. Physical stuff, not just e-books. Maybe there's some affiliate programs.

Of course, you could go a totally different route and teach video production.

          Hi Randy,

          Just saying 'yo' to you!

          Hi Jason,

I've been following your progress a little on your blog, and I really enjoy reading your stuff as a 'travel writer' - only you could come up with article titles like 'Emptying the ****ter at Mardi Gras'.

If you ever sail that thing over to the UK (you did buy an amphibious RV, right?) I'll arrange a welcoming party - (beer, not cannons).

BTW I know you're a Michael Franti fan, but not sure if you like crossover/reggae - if you do, these boys are from my home city and are well worth a look, if you're still in the area (Miami/Key West) on March 10th/11th.

    Hi Brian

I was gonna PM you but I don't have 50 post yet so it said I couldn't

I'm totally down to shoot and edit for Marketer's and with the setup I got I believe it could easily work.

I have a Powerbook G4 with Final Cut Pro 6, multiple hard drives and all the time in the world. I have solar on the roof which allows me power to edit wherever I'm at.

I shoot with a Panasonic DVX 100a and have a light kit and a wireless LAV kit.

Craigslist is usually where I get work when I am on the road and that percentage of work is quickly fading.

Would love to hear your ideas.

    Cheers!

      Welcome Randy.

First thing, get your butt over to bmyers.com and join (only 10 bux a mo) and go through archives searching for RV. Bill Myers has plenty of knowledge, content and some great ideas over there you can quickly and easily tap into.

From MY perspective: Create residual and ongoing income stream.

      Here's how:

Focus on just a handful of "niches" or groups. For example, Baby Boomers and Retirement.

As you travel, contact Chambers of Commerce, Cities, County and State PRMOTIONAL boards and offer to shoot a "come on down" video for them. You actually can work both sides of the street on this one, charging "boomers" a small fee to either join a membership site to access your stuff, OR, pay a one time fee for specific info...ie., Best Places in the FL Panhandle to
retire. And a video of these locations. You could get the locations to PAY for this, local realtors and businesses whom would have an interest in your "list" of people looking in their direction.

Also, vacation destinations, like Disney, only video the BARGAINS, or give some "insider" information.

OR, experience destinations, say Golf. You can shoot some courses in Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, FL, CA, TX in the Winter and work your way North for the Summer.

You could interview the head pros, ask them about "how to play" their course, get a scorecard, and a "course book" and put it into a KIT, and you let Kunaki and other remote fulfillment centers do the work for you.

Where are the best places to vacation with a CAT? You've got some great experience there.

The thing is Randy, you have a LOT of options and the challenge is going to be to FOCUS in on a couple of things you like to do (fish?, golf?, camp?, hunt?...whatever) and create your videos and put them up for sale. Again, a place like Kunaki can fulfill for you and you simply do what you do best, shoot the video.

HOOK up with people who can AFFORD to pay you, WANT what you have...and that is why I suggest you look to "destination" entities, cities, towns, states who want to promote an area and stay as long as you care too video taping the place.

You might want to offer an EXCLUSIVE, "I'm here, what do you want to see?" for example, you might want to VIDEO golf courses for sale. You can cash in both directions, the seller will want a detailed video, and the buy will pay for a third party shoot and investigation.

Well, there you have a few ideas to at least think about.

Good luck and have fun in your adventures.

    Hey guys,

Randy's site doesn't come up at all. My guess is it might be slammed with lots of people checking it out at once. Would be really interesting if tomorrow, you could post what your server logs show as # of visitors yesterday and today.

I'm also not the kind of person that likes to build businesses online by keyword research. Seriously, I never look at that stuff. I focus on things I love or like to do. If it's interesting to me, I'll build a site about it. Almost all my niche sites are things that I really like to do.
That in itself is a big challenge to Warrior Forum Conventional Wisdom. I'd love to see some more discussion about how this has worked out for you. I think there are too many people trying to do MBA-style quantification spreadsheets of what other people might like. Meanwhile they ignore the own hearts shouting "Hey, over here! This is cool and fun and makes you happy!"

These folks ask what type of online business they should start to make lots of money. When you ask what they're interested in, suddenly the conversation isn't any more use to them.

I'm wondering if a bit of repositioning to "Travel" is better than "RV"?
If a family drove their own car and stayed at motels, could your advice still help them?

If they flew and stayed with relatives, could your advice still help them?

How about someone who has a work trip to a place they like, and the option pay their own dime to extend the trip into a personal vacation?

Could what you've learned about living aboard an RV also help people who want to learn how to live aboard a boat?

Here's someone with a perfect book for you to try to license and sell as an affiliate: How To Live Aboard Your RV. I've never met these folks myself.

The travelogue idea sounds cool. You could get some great stock footage. Almost every place can be scenic to someone who lives somewhere else. I used to know some guys at a cable access facility in Oregon. They drove around the back roads with the van side door open for the camera. They got more appreciative calls from shut-ins who loved the "ride in the country" footage.

Combine that kind of natural beauty with some New Age or classical music and you have the kind of meditative videos that some people love to buy. (But it would it be happy for your heart?)

you could go a totally different route and teach video production
Could you show people how to use a DVX rig the way this guy shows people how to use combo cams? Dublin’s People: Shot on a Canon 7d in native 24p | Philip Bloom Could you keep up on daily moderation of a blog/forum to have his kind of cool low-budget indie production community? Could you get a guest spot on his blog?

    Craigslist
Craigslist for any type of skilled tech work is a race to the bottom of the barrel. Too many trust fund kids or weekend warriors who got all the latest stuff and are happy to work for $1.95 plus a peanut butter sandwich just for "the exposure." Oh, and that means they pay the producer the two bucks and make the sandwiches for everyone else, just for the honor of working on a no-budget production that will never make any money but it's got lots of artistic vibes man. So you've invested $5k into an HVX 100a? Man, these guys will show up with a $100k PDW-700 and donate a bucket of bungie cords, just for the fun of it.

Far better to have a producer's stake in what you're doing. Use Bill Myers as your model for little how-to videos sold to niche markets.
    Bill Myers Online

To me it seems a lot easier to find experts that you believe in and promote
And you're gonna be able to cruise into their town, spend as long as you and they like interviewing them and have them demonstrate their techniques, prepare complete how-to video training courses. All this can get photographed by a guy who's shot sports and news as a pro, and can shoot and cut high-def shows from anywhere... and he's the road buddy of a guy who's accomplished at putting sales letters online... Hello! Clue phone ringing with the sound of money!

I'd love to learn more about your adventures. If there's anything I can do to help, or be a sounding board for ideas, please feel free to shoot me a note. I've got at least one more niche market idea for you that would be easy to saturate, so I won't post it on the forum.

    Roll on!
