Using false author name on a sales page?

Hi guys,

I am about to launch a product on Clickbank and I wander
if I can use a 'pen name' instead of my real name on my website.

Is that legally ok and is it accepted by Clickbank?

If that's the case, why aren't you using your real name on this forum...unless your real name is ArbyDee2?

However a big part of this business is building your reputation to your target market.. Why use a pen name?

Well the rich jerk got away with it. And then after his release, a lot wannabees soon followed. And you can't really distinguish which is the real deal.

I would use my own name. Unless I have a very good reason not to.

What if you use a pen name (which is perfectly fine btw) and a photo of someone else. By using someone else's photo, is that ok too?

So many IMer choose to hide behind other names for whatever reason.

But you are building a brand even if you are selling someone else's product and you should connect yourself to that, unless you don't like the product but the money its makes...that a moral decision for you to make.

If you do your affiliate marketing correctly you're probably collecting some names and email addresses so you best be sure to use the correct pen name in your correspondence to your list as well.

That's the problem with 'lying' or disguising who you are, you have to remember all the lies you have told or risk being caught out.

Yes I understand the irony of my comments when my user name in the forum is different. Real name is in the signature of course.
I cant find where to change it in the admin settings!

              Hi Simon,

You can change your username to your real name here by submitting your request through the help desk. They will make that for you under 1 - 2 days (free of charge).

Anyway, you refer to an important point. If someone uses different pen names in his activity then he need to organize well those. Otherwise he may be entangled in to some 'rope' - so it is easy to make any mistake in that situation.

Naturally his reputation may be ruined in some way.

              All the best,

              Sandor

Yes, it's better to use your own name and build your reputation
when you are selling your own product that is 100% original and
created by you. And I use my real name for such products.

But this product is reworked PLR product, a home study course for
which I created new minisite, new sales letter, new marketing
materials for affiliates and added new bonuses. However, other
marketers are going to sell the same core course and that's why
I wouldn't like to sell it under my real name.

But I don't know if it is legally ok to sell the product as ' John Smith',
and is that accepted by Clickbank or not?

    Alminc-
Plublishing to the web is the same as publishing a book. I've heard attorneys says you are legally allowed to use a pen name for anything you create, write or publish for any reason you wish. I am not an attorney - so check with legal counsel to make sure. (smile)

its ok but if the product is a hit, then the author(you) will not be known.if you write your real name and its a hit,who knows you'll make a big name for yourself in the internet marketing history.its also good for your future product releases.

My opinion is; you should always use a pen name. It's legal and it's meant for protection puposes. Nearly all "rich" authors use pen names. Now and in the past. Naturally, everyone is entitled to their own opinion on how they want to run their business. Happy Trails!

My question is not about writing articles under a pen name.

It's about selling a reworked PLR product through Clickbank.

Other marketers are going to sell the same core course and that's why
I wouldn't like to sell it under my real name.

Is it legally ok to sell the product as ' John Smith',

It's legally ok to use any name you like so long
        as your intention isn't fraudulent.

As for Clickbank... I despise them so I'm not up to date
on their TOS. I'd suggest contacting them for the answer.

Nah... I don't want to come off sounding like
one of those Pay Pal whiners. I just don't like
them and will never do business with them.

I don't think it's about having a pen name, or what clickbank may think, it's about your business. Remember your trying to build a business be honest and build a good repore with your subscribers.

Oh and this is a biggie...

If you're going to use a pen name, don't leave a testimonial as you for your pen name created product.

You will be outed and your reputation will be ruined as a result of it.

Thank you guys, I understand from your answers that it's fine to use
a pen name as a seller.

I perfectly understand the importance of branding your name as a product
creator/seller and building your reputation, in case where you really create
your own 100% original products from scratch. In that case you can and
should proudly put your real name on a sales page.

But when you are selling reworked/improved PLR product that even other
people are selling, then it would hurt your reputation if you put your real
name on a sales page as the author.

Appart from selling PLR products there are other reasons for not using
        your real name.

You see, people from english speaking countries like USA, Canada, UK and
Australia are more likely to purchase from a sales page where seller's
name is some english name than from a sales page where seller's name
is some strange 'foreign' name that they can't even pronounce (unless
you are someone widely recognised, like Ewen Chia ).

    Hi guys

i work in a lot of niches away from make money online and use a lot of pen names and all my products are sold via clickbank and they have never said a word to me.

Im sure they wont this time either

If they do you can always have your account name as your pen name and then the check payable to be different.

    kind regards
