One of the easiest ways to make residual income every month is to write for pay per click sites. My top article has made over $650 (not bad for under an hours work). Many other articles I have written have made in the hundreds. I routinely rake in several hundred a month in residual income from articles I wrote months ago. How to do it - Write carefully keyworded articles and submit to eHow, Infobarrel, Xomba or other pay per click sites. If you write the articles correctly you can earn hundreds every month. How-to's are easy to write and people love them. Content sites like eHow get hundreds of thousands of visitors. Which Site to Join? - There are lots of them out there. eHow, Infobarrel, Xomba, Redgage, SheToldMe....and more. Try to use multiple sites as the rules can change at any time at these sites. Topics - Both Evergreen and Hot Topics can do well. Hot Topics can bring cash fast. Evergreen can bring it in the bucks for the long term. Look around for topic ideas. Check out Yahoo Buzz, Google Trends, watch Rachel Ray and other TV shows. Look at what is selling on eBay and Amazon for more thoughts. Take note of the ads as you cruise the internet and see what is hot. Got a Topic Idea? - Go to the Google Adwords tool and see how many searches it gets and look at related ideas. For example, I decided to write an article on growing long nails. When I looked under nails I found that my topic idea got some searches but what got even more searches was nail art designs. I quickly turned that into a how to. That article has earned over $175. More Income - Just one article can bring in hundreds but some articles may only make pennies so be sure to write consistently so you can bring in the $. CPC? - Again look at Google Adwords and see how much the topic is paying per click. Low payers include things such as recipes. Sex it Up? On some sites such as eHow the articles placed in the sex health section will not generate any ads. No ads = no money. Ready for Ad Clicks? - No you cannot click your own ads. But to encourage clicks get your article to rise high in the search engines. Use your keywords in your title and sprinkled through out the body of the article. Google loves these sites and tends to rank the articles high. Paid by Ad Clicks? - You are paid a percentage of the ad clicks which varies from site to site. At eHow it is a secret formula. Xomba pays 50% and Infobarrel 75%. Other sites pay differently. Some may pay on a percentage of clicks and views. Keep in mind that some sites do allow for affiliate links, which can add to your bottomline, others do not. How do I get Paid? - At some sites you will need to register for an Adsense account and the money will be paid out to you by Google ($100 minimum). At other sites you do not need an Adsense account. They will track it for you and send you your money usually via Paypal. Bonus - Some of these sites ALLOW affiliate links. Not all of them so be sure to read the TOS. So you are writing about How to Buy a Big Screen TV, you can throw in your Amazon affiliate link. OR you can use the site to direct traffic to your own website. The Sweet Spot - You can also learn what are great topics (from the amount of views and ad clicks you get) to turn into websites. That is exactly what I did. I turned some of my top earning articles into niche websites. Content site writing can be a great way to make money and the beauty is what you wrote yesterday keeps on paying today. Unless the site changes the rules of course |

This is a really great tip for writers who find themselves with some free time between clients. I've thought about going this route myself a few times. You forgot the added bonus of building your portfolio while earning cash |

Very true you will build your writing portfolio. And since these articles are not ghostwritten you will be able to share them with potential clients. You may also be approached by potential clients. I have been contacted several times by people who saw an article I wrote on one of these sites or on my website to write for them. I now do online promo for one major client who approached me after seeing an article. This provides a very nice additional income stream. |

Very nice write up for those who just can't figure out which direction to take, as well as for those who love to write, of course. You've outlined a nice action plan that can result in income that doesn't take a lot of technical expertise to get started. There's really no excuse not to take action.

Thanks Dennis. This truly is a simple way to start making money online that will bring in cash monthly. A few other things; Photos: If you want to add a photo to an article use free sites such as Stock.xching. Hunting for photos takes time. Limit the article to one or two photos. Be sure to properly label your photo using your keywords. Social Bookmarking: Yes you can social bookmark the articles to bring in more traffic, but you don't need to. If you carefully keyword the articles these sites get such Google love they will often rank highly without any other backlinking. Time is better spent on writing more articles. If you do want to bookmark keep it simple and quick using a service like Onlywire. You could also do a quick ping with PingOmatic. Hope this helps. |

For those that want to know whether the sites pay by check or PayPal, check the site's FAQ's page.

Out of the three eHow still does the best for me. I consistently make $5-600/month there with 200 articles. I just got fed up with their deleting articles and stupidly vague reasons with no way to fix them.

What a great way to add another passive income stream to your "portfolio"! And I especially like the tip about turning your best ones into websites. Thanks for sharing - I actually didn't even realize that there were sites out there that did this. Now i feel like I've been living under a rock or something! Lee |

How to Approach the Content Sites: Approach these sites for what they are - a business. They care about one thing churning out content to the masses in a cost effective manner. They do not care if your goal is to write the great American novel or that you have six kids to feed. They want content, content and content at a good price. So keep the big picture in mind. These sites can change the rules, go out of business or do whatever, whenever they want. Diversify the sites you use so you are not dependent on one. They are using you to get what they want so you should use them correctly to get what you want. This means use the sites to develop an understanding of how to write for the search engines. Use the sites to make some additional income. Use the sites when you have a few free minutes and feel like knocking out an article that if written properly will bring you money for years to come. Use the sites to see what niches will work. Use the sites to direct traffic to your website - Properly written articles can drive traffic to your website where you can reap the benefits of affiliate sales etc. AND while you are driving traffic there you are also getting nice, juicy ad clicks at the content sites and getting paid. Works like an article directory only you are also enjoying the profits from visitors. Take what you learn and develop your own sites. Use the content sites to your advantage.

What I did when I started was to go to the Google Adwords tool, plug in a topic that interested me and looked to see if people were searching for it. I would also get ideas from the other words that popped up. Hear about something new and interesting? If the topic interests you consider getting an article out there fast. Recently I heard about a new diet plan. Within half an hour I had written up an article and blasted it out to one of the content sites. It's already made about $50 in ad clicks and as more and more people hear of the plan, that amount will grow. This diet does not have a ton of searches but it will. A good source for new, hot topics are TV shows like Oprah and Rachel Ray. Also as I mentioned earlier keep an eye on what is selling at Amazon and check out sites such as eBay Pulse, Yahoo Trends, Google Buzz etc. If pressed for numbers I would say aim for at least 1,000 exact searches a month. Its hard to put a number on competing sites because I have had articles jump up over millions of results. Google loves content sites but if you are concerned aim for no more than 400,000 competition. There are no real rules and you will need to feel it out. Another key is cost per click. If Google is paying only 5 cents a click why bother? Try for a few dollars at least. Social bookmarking and back linking is not needed. If you keyword your articles correctly they should do well. However, if you want to give them a boost using Onlywire and Pingomatic is quick and easy. I have articles at the top of Google that have been there over a year without any back linking. Spend the bulk of your time building up your bank of articles. I am not sure why you are not seeing Adsense. There is Adsense all over Xomba, Infobarrel, eHow etc. In addition to Adsense Infobarrel also pays members with Chitika.

I asked you four serious questions and didn't get an answer to any of them. Would you mind addressing them? I think your method is interesting but it makes no sense to me without some kind of targeting information.

Can we choose our own topic to write or do they dictate that?

Yes you can choose your own topic. I have written about everything from how to make money sitting on the can to how to get on reality TV. Articles that have done well for me include articles on making money, losing weight, saving money, getting more beautiful, taking medications, getting stuff free ie college education, samples etc, tax advice, solving problems, how to throw a _ kids party, ....the usual suspects. Articles that have not done well for me include music articles, recipes, vague topics (how to get your game on), community service (recycle phone, crime watch) that type of thing. |

That's the great thing about these sites, you get to write about anything. Some are more strict than others when it comes to how it is written but pretty much any topic goes. And what was mentioned above about getting your feet wet with them, is so true. I wish I would have started there rather then failing miserably on a blog. I learned a lot there and got rewarded much better than my first few sites with much less work. |

Can anyone clarify if ehow's payment scheme is the writer's compenstaion programme. If so am I correct in thinking this only plays out to US residents? Also does anyone have a list of additional sites? I was trying to work out what search terms I would use to try and find them myself. Thanks Andrew |

Good tips but why not start your own site and put them there and get 100% of the revenue?

As I mentioned in a prior post after seeing what earned me $ on the content sites, I started my own websites based on my high earning topics.

Other ones I've found so far are Infobarrel.com and Xomba.com both of which don't mention any country restriction (you get paid through your AdSense account). Chris

Seems like a solid plan to me. It's definitely a great way for one to get their feet wet when it comes to making money with content. And then once you get comfortable with it, move on to your own actual sites.

| More income for you; On some of the sites including Xomba, Infobarrel, Redgage and Bukisa you earn referral fees. At Xomba for example, if you refer a member you will earn 10% of their ad revenue. So each time your referral member writes a "Xombyte" or "Xomblurb" you will pocket 10% of the ad clicks that article earns. This is taken from Xomba's portion not the person you referred's portion. These sites will give you referral links to send to your friends, post on your website etc. Nice way to pocket a little extra cash. |
