I converted all my sites to WP about 2 years ago and I do have one regret. Wish I would have don it much sooner.

Search engines like WP and it is much easier to work with with all the plug ins and updating content that working with an html editor.

Wordpress is a lot easier and simpler

You question is kind of tricky. It's kind of like asking what the difference between a vehicle and a car. A car is a vehicle. A truck is another type of vehicle. A car can transport a business client just like a truck.

A website is a website. A website can be made by a variety of software/tools.

Wordpress is a software and is one option to create a website.

You can use Wordpress to build a website for a business.

Wordpress is a free software that you can install, you just pay for your domain and hosting which would also be required with any other software you chose to use.

Is it easy? Yes, if you know how to use it. Is it easy to drive a car? Yes, if you know how to use it.

if you know a lot about html website will be better. If you don't know a lot, wordpress will be the better one

Like Tink, I use Wordpress for all of my websites. Period.

I was an HTML guy when I first started and that was fun, until I discovered Wordpress. It is so much easier to get a complete, customized website up and running (and also to edit it).

And it's faster too. My record for setting up a complete and unique Wordpress website from absolutely nothing is 5 minutes.

But Greg put it best. Wordpress is a TYPE of website. One of many fantastic options. The primary advantage to WP over straight coding is the CMS (Content Management System). This is the backend section that allows you to make quick changes to the structure and functionality of your website.

Wordpress is by far much better than a website. The search engines love them and you can also install free SEO (Search Engine Optimization) plugins and a whole much of other plugins to really get the full effect of an actual website.

The deal with Wordpress however, is that you are going to have to constantly add blog posts at least a few times a week. So, there is maintenance involved. Whereas a website is static, so there is no maintenance involved. However, with a website, you will have to hire an SEO specialist to optimize it for you if you don't know how to do that.

So, you will have to make that decision.

If you are not good at HTML I would say that Wordpress is perfect for you. As you build your website, you may have some HTML challenges, but nothing that the people here at the WF couldn't help you with.

As far as money goes, Wordpress is free and even BETTER if you have your own host and domain name. You can get online and so a search for some Free WP Themes/Templates and be up and running in a VERY short time.

My vote is for WP all the way if you havent been able to tell already.

My WP site looks like any other website, search engines love it and I can manage it quie easily ...it's definitely the way to go.

It depends upon your requirements. But Worpress site is the easier and cheapest way to create a site. Although wordpress site has some limitations while on website, you can easily maintain your site .

Oh come on now, HTML is fun; so is CSS. Of course it will drive you totally insane, but that's part of the game, right ? Just kidding of course. WP is a whole lot easier, but if you want a real challenge, put up a website using nothing but HTML and Notepad.

We just converted our entire program over to WP websites. Google loves WP websites, especially if you updating them regularily

Fully customizable with a few clicks in terms of both functionality and themes.
Pretty nicely SEO'd out of the box. With a couple plugins, you're pretty much sweet.
Easy to add posts/pages.

I'd say it depends on the usage.

I have some minisites that are just 1-3 pages. Never plan to update them. Then a template based html standard website is much easier I think: You just have to add the contant and upload a couple of pages (content+maybe a TOS) and that's it. You are also alot less exposed to database crashes etc as well.

Then, if you plan to update your website, or new pages etc then I'd go for wordpress! Definitively!!

But you can also use other tools like PortalFeeder or maybe XsitePro (or whatever it's called) to easily manage "standard html looking" websites.

WP is very easy to navigate, edit, install and use in general. Themes make it easy to have a great looking site regardless of your HTML know-how. Your shouldn't have a problem installing it on whatever host you use.

I would go with Wordpress all the time. I used to build websites but find Wordpress much easier and less time consuming now. I link my blogs with my social marketing and find list building much more effective this way too!

Wordpress without a doubt!

Wordpress makes it much easier for you to set up a decent site and with the extremely large number of themes available you can make your Wordpress look like a normal site.

I highly suggest Wordpress, and with a skilled designer or a decent theme that suits your needs you will be A for away.

wordpress blogs dont look like blogs anymore (this was always the biggest reason for me not to go with wordpress) and you have tons of plugins, tools, etc, easy to update

I just "converted" one of my sites to wordpress - I am curious to see if this makes any difference in terms of traffic - yes its def. more fun to update the site ;-))) and you can do pretty naughty stuff with the rss feed...

The SEO comments here don't relate to the biggest reasoning. Search for for the post where someone did a very well thought out test to rank "blog" pages verses static pages for certain keywords - static (non blog) pages actually ranked higher more often.

The biggest factor is your own skill level, hands-down.

I have a degree in computers and I can hand-code a site to my exact specs without having to be limited by WP.

However, if I were new, there's no way that I would use anything BUT WP or some other type of CMS platform like Joomla or Drupal (higher learning curve).

It'd take me two years of full-time study starting from scratch to know what I know now, and the difference is probably only about 10% greater in what I, personally, can do that outperforms WP, and I suppose it would take anyone else that amount of time, too.

So if you're starting out, there's probably going to be no profitable reason to NOT use wordpress due to how quickly you can get a good looking, functional site completeted that is profitable, too.

Make sure to always take your own skill level as the highest measure of whatever advice you get here, no matter how strong or pointed or convincing the person seems to be.

Yep - WordPress it is - and to think of all those wasted years on the HTML/CSS/PHP treadmills.....

I like Wordpress for 3 main reasons: (1) It's SEO friendly, Google seems to love it (2) It's very simple to add content, (3) I don't have to worry about cross-browser compatibility problems. For someone like me who knows just enough to be dangerous, WP is a great solution
