I'm using uTorrent to get free traffic to my site. Is this method just for XXX rated stuff or what? All I see are pop ups and half naked women at all the Utorrent upload sites. (Not that I mind naked women), it's just distracting.

Anyone else use uTorrent for traffic here?

Peace,

Shane

I dont have any experience of advertising here but I would avoid it for 2 reasons:
    • as you mention it is full of adult banners, and unless your banners are for adult related sites / products then perhaps this isn't right?
    • but mainly aren't people using uTorrent and other services mainly freeloaders - people illegally downloading movies / music etc - why are they going to click on a banner and buy something from you / me? Perhaps if they liked it they would search uTorrent for it, or if it is your product then marketing to these people could ensure that your product gets uploaded there?
I would avoid this for these reasons, but as I mention, I have not had any experience of it, so maybe someone who has could better advise.

I use utorrent (bittorrent) for traffic/sales but in a completely different way.

      1) Get a ebook or software with give away rights

      2) Use boomerang software to lock the product

      3) Setup a page on your website that will issue an unlock code for the item when they submit their email address.

      4) Distribute the item via the bit torrent network and wait for people to download.

      The Result:

I search for iphone unlocker, I see something that might help me do this and so I download it. I run the program but I need an unlock code, the software tells me where to got to get a code (your website) I enter my email address and get the code to unlock the product. I'm now also on your email list.

But how good can a list of freeloaders possibly be? Do you actually make any money from this list? If so, how do you make it convert?

Sounds like CPA system with an email submit. So called freeloaders will fill out an email/zip submit offer to get to the free content.

            Hi,

The people that download and then unlock the software are added to my list and then I send a relevant follow up campaign. The traffic does not convert well, but it's essentially free traffic.

Don't discount freeloaders, many highly profitable businesses offer something for free before actually selling an item to the person.

For example John Thornhills free monthy websites, it has a one time offer in the back end where a person can download the entire free monthly websites for a price. I know this makes money and I run some similar setups that also make money.

For the most part, I think that torrent users are people who are internet savvy and mostly are looking for music or movies that either aren't available where they live, or the versions of what they are looking for aren't available. They are also typically very young and I wouldn't think that many of them would be interested in IM or AM.

I think that Garyv has a point - do you have any way of telling if these people are buying anything after they join your list, or is it just a method to increase your mailing list size?
