Article Marketing Question

Fellow Warriors, when doing article mkt I know to put my article on my site first, then ezine, then the rest of the article directories. My question is, once I submit the article to numerous different article directories will my articles be considered duplicate content? Thanks

There is no duplicate content penalty for your own articles.

Make your own website articles unique.

Then submit other articles to as many decent directories as you have time for. All of those directories will have others re-publish it and be glad for it.

Duplicate content is only bad if it is within the same website or a blog. If you have the same article more than once on your website, that is what Google does not like. Submitting the same article all over the web will not hurt you as internet is based on duplicate content.

Every day I check the obituaries. If I don't see my name there, then I know it's going to be a good day!

Some while back, someone heard the term "duplicate content" and got the wrong idea about it. Unfortunately, they then started teaching what they believed was the truth. That spread, and now this idea refuses to die. The question comes up a dozen times a day.

There is no duplicate content penalty for having your article appear in article directories. There is none for having it appear on other websites. However, your site WILL be penalized if you post that article multiple times on your own websites - but why on earth would any sane person do that anyway?

First, submit your own articles to your own website, then to directories. Ezines or any other directories won`t mind if they come to your link and see you having the same article on your website. It`s not duplicate content, if posted on different sites.

Just make sure you submit the article under the same name in all directories; if not, ezine will not publish because they will think you stole the article.

Actually, it's not even "bad" if you have dup content on the same domain. Google will just index one of the pages (of their choice). Use the canonical tag and a sitemap (with Google Webmaster Tools) if you want control over which one they index.

  • In my experiences writing SEO articles, my clients request original and unique articles because of this unspoken "rule." What I do know for a fact, is that search engines like Google, support good quality, original content. Some of my clients have told me that if they post an article on their website, they can not post it in article directories. Why? I am not sure, maybe it goes back to what has been said here.

Does anyone know more about this?

If you use a blog post from your own site as an article to submit to the directories will it be considered dup content and/or make your site penalized for it?

It's subjective because if the articles directories or sites list your articles as a different webpage format then it will still appear as a unique content and won't really penalize you.

My best advise would be to change your articles title a little to reflect differing headline content.

So changing the headline and lets say changing all the words from "I'm writing this blog because" to "I decided to write this article for you because" will be enough to avoid being penalized as duplicate?

          Thanks in advance

No, that won't work, and I wouldn't even try it. Google gets smarter all the time, and so do the article directories.

Write original articles, submit them, and write more.

I'm going to add my own thanks here too. I, too, have been under the impression that I needed to somehow change the article somewhat when submitting it to different article directories. Thanks for asking the question and for all those who finally cleared that misdirection up.
