Are You Losing Money Because of Your Ebook Linking Practices?
You have no control over what a vendor does, an affiliate link can go dead at anytime. That's why you should check the links in your ebooks now and then, and why you should always use a redirect page for your affiliate links because you can't recall ebooks that are already in circulation.
Using a redirect page, if the affiliate link goes dead, you can easily find another affiliate program and change the link on your redirect page, thus keeping your ebook up to date and saving your potential commission. If you were talking about a specific product you can change the redirect page to a static page and explain why you're now recommending a different product so they aren't surprised by being taken somewhere unexpected.
Creating a redirect page is easy. Just paste the following into the <head> section of your web page:
<meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="0; URL=http://www.YourAffiliateLinkHere" target="_top"> <meta name="robots" content="no index, no follow">
I also include the "no index, no follow" meta tag to keep search engines from indexing my redirect pages. As a rule you don't want search engines indexing your redirect pages because they may be mistaken as doorway pages or spam attempts.
Hope that helps.
PS - Don't forget to check the links to your own products in your ebooks now and then too. Sometimes we rename pages for one reason or another.
