Anyone using Stumbleupon?

Hey Warriors,

I was just wondering if any of you used Stumbleupon to drive traffic? I was thinking of doing a project revolved around Stumbleupon, but it'd be nice to get some feedback from you guys.

Has it worked for you and if it has, does the traffic have a very high bounce rate? I keep hearing that there's usually an 80-85% bounce rate or so for Stumbleupon traffic?

Would just like to know your experience with it if you've used it.

Thanks a bunch

A fellow warrior has a very interesting WSO available at present which is based on the use of Stumbleupon advertising and how to use it profitably.

    It's well worth a look:

Not much anymore. Used to be crazy as I had this tool which would stumble your site with a tonne of profiles through real computers all over the world. I literally would get like 10k uniques within a few seconds, no joke. Then things got patched and SU got strict. Not sure how it is now but it would work for list building and turn crap traffic into quality buyers

    Hello,

Thanks for the reference to my WSO Ivan! I've been using StumbleUpon advertising for about a year and over the course of the time perfected quite a few ways to monetize it. This was because of frustration with PPC campaigns costing me exponentially more than the returns I'd get from them, not to mention the constant watching, tweaking and editing.

StumbleUpon is very unique in that not only can it deliver targeted traffic, but it can deliver traffic based on a niche you select, versus just keywords, which is advantageous for CPA offers and so on because you can select broad interest over select keywords. It also allows you to select demographics (age/sex) which is a huge advantage depending on the offers you promote.

Long story short, yes I've been using StumbleUpon quite extensively to profit through the various sites and their varying monetization!

Let me know if you've any specific questions I'll gladly answer them!

Stumbleupon falls under social bookmarking along with delicious, digg, and reddit to name a few. There's a list of various ones here:

I'm using stumble as well as some others.

STU and Digg are declining their reliability based on my personal experience... I seldom use them since last year...

I think StumbleUpon is more of a hybrid between social bookmarking and marketing vehicle, their advertising network is absolutely unique in that it serves 1 paid page, without the constant battling of marketers vying for viewers clicks and conversions.

Also, as far as traffic, it creates telescoping traffic because even once you've finished paying for traffic, you will garner organic traffic afterwards because of a sites popularity. You just have to structure your site so you don't get huge bounce rates!

Avoiding bounce rates on StumbleUpon is not quite as hard as it may seem, even though the users are stumbling for entertainment, they will stop if they see something good. It requires you to think backwards, at least thats how I do for advertising.

To kill bounce rates, I first find my niche, and there are LASER targeted niches to choose where you want your traffic from (like those interested in say windsurfing, or poker or dating tips and so on)

Stumblers want visuals and giving them visuals is what you must do. I don't experience anywhere near an 85% bounce rate after I've done some testing. The great part is you can test things on StumbleUpon for about $5 because that translates into 100 targeted stumblers from the niche you pick. I've paid $5 for 2 clicks in PPC before in high comp niches.

I can experiment and by the time I've spent $20 or so you can find ways to keep them on your page. Like anything, A/B testing and constant scrutiny work wonders!

Very powerful thread. I little bit confuse about bounce rate as well.

I'm appreciate hear good info about bounce rate from SU or other SB sites as well.

      The opening post said:

Let's put this into context: if you submitted an article to EzineArticles and it received 1000 views, which resulted in 200 people clicking on the link in your resource box would you be happy with that?

In other words, if you had a 20% CTR on your article would that be OK?

Most authors would be be fine with a CTR of that order as most receive a lot less!

An advantage of paid advertising is that you are guaranteed the views of your web page and with Stumbleupon the cost is fairly low. As the landing page is on your web site, You are able to refine it until you get an acceptable level of viewers clicking through.

Those of us who remember the heady days of arbitrage when something similar was done using Adwords realize how easy it is to make money this way. I still remember the days when we could get many thousands of fairly targeted visitors to our sites each day for 1c each. Sigh!

While you can add 3 categories, I always use just 1 for optimal testing means. Granted if you've tested each 3 individually and they all seem to convert about equal, then I'd say go for it, otherwise I'd stick with just 1 (but I'm a nut for testing!)

StumbleUpon just recently updated their system a bit too, a new user interface which even shows you how many free stumbles you got (not many advertising networks give you free traffic

I've done this forever and it works like gang busters.

Where can one find a quiz script, Bro.

I will google and search the WF.

Just wondering if you know of a source right off the top.
