Blogging - Landing Page?

If you have your own blog on a server and want to promote affiliate products - is it better to have a real blog or have static landing page with some content and then redirect to the affiliate site?

This will be my first wordpress site and not sure what most people are doing.

    Here's what I do: a static page AND a blog.

    The landing page is static. It includes an offer along with a short pre-sell. At the bottom of the page, I have a link to my blog.

    On the blog (use single column themes), I put up a short pre-sell with my offer on top of all posts. This pre-sell either links to my main static page, or to the main offer itself.
