How to get a expired domain when it's first available?

I have a domain that I didn't renew in early Jan. that is now in redemption. I want to try to register it but if I do it now it will cost a $99 plus register fee. I don't want it that bad but would like to try to get it when it becomes available again. It's not that popular of a domain so I stand a good chance if I can try to get it when it's first available again?

Is there a reputable free service that will tell me as soon as it's available again?

Thanks, Ron

Tricky stuff. Often you have to first put out a bid. Then once you past this phase, you can get into a bidding war. It can be pretty ugly. You can backorder a domain such as on goaddy, and they will notify you.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

What about a way that tells you when it's publicly available? As I said the domain isn't one that most people would want.
