How do you create a wordpress template? (squeeze page)

Does anyone have any advice for me or a free tutorial they've seen that can explain a little bit about wordpress templates and how to create them?

I know basic html and CSS so it doesn't have to be too involved, but I'm not a programmer and don't know wordpress well enough to know the template stuff.

I'm basically trying to find out how to create my own squeeze pages that are simple, have no header, and no sidebars. Just straight html so I can put in some content and my optin box.

Anyone have that kind of resource?

    There is a plug-in you can use. What it does is fix it so that WP will not change your html code. Build your squeeze in whatever editor you use and then post it into your WP, change the post to a page and make it your front page. I do not remember the name of the plug in but I am sure someone here knows it.
