Is it too late to venture in IM?

I'm a newbie at this Internet Marketing thing and most of the so-called "gurus" and most of you started with this many years ago so my question is -- Is it too late for a newbie like me to start in this kind of business (building a list, blogging, etc.) to become successful (earn good money that you can quit your day job)? Kindly elaborate your answers.

So long as the Internet's around, it will never be too late.

The Internet Marketing world is always going to evolve, so from time to time you will have to update your tactics, but there won't be some cutoff point so it will no longer be profitable.

Some Warriors have been around here forever, but newer folks are also raking it in. It's all about the most effective use of your time

It is true that some of us have been around forever.

Paul Myers, on the other hand, has been around rather longer than that.

    Hi Kisk,
it's never too late. I don't know the latest stats but millions of people join the internet all over the world ever day. I have been at this just over 6 months and what I am learning is this: it doesn't matter how long you have been at it, what matters is what you do.

If you think you will get rich over night, rethinking is needed. This is a job just like any other. It's hard work and long hours to get started, especially if you work alone.

There is so much information on this forum that you will have to be disciplined in order not to get quickly overwhelmed. I would recommend that you spend a few days reading this forum and making notes. Make a list of people that grab your attention and the types of instructions that make you tingle. When you are done, TRY and just follow the people and thread topics that you noted. It will save you countless hours reading everything. Make that time useful by taking action as described in the threads that you are following.

Don't think that something better will come along and postpone taking action. Someone will always come out with a new method, and truth be told, some of these are better than what you may be using. But, in order to find that next nugget you spend hours and hours reading. I think it's better to at least have something working well than doing nothing as you wait for a miracle.

There are people on the WF who bend over backwards to help; if you have questions, it's better to do your own research first so you have specific questions. Some people ask questions that show they haven't done any work themselves to find the answer. That's just lazy.

    Anyway, good luck.

Is it too late to start a business offline? Seems like all the successful people started so long ago.

Yeah right! There are always opportunities, there are always open markets. The internet is still so young. You've made it to the game early.

    yep, it's not too late.

Here's the thing: IM is *just* another way of reaching people, i.e. another marketing channel.

so, as long as you have the business fundamentals in place (provide exceptional value would be a great starting point) then you're good to go.

many people who get into IM are opportunity seekers, they want to get rich doing next to nothing and look for quick-fixes, magic bullets and sneaky ninja tricks (have a look at the titles in the WSO section if you're not quite sure what I mean....)

end-result: they don't do anything with it or they don't get the results, because they well, don't provide value people are willing to pay money for.

and as rlharding says, it's hard work. Yes, you can work smart and leverage a lot of what's out there, but you're very unlikely to get rich overnight...

(unless of course you can come up with yet another magic bullet which is going to be snapped up by tons of opportunity seekers ....)

    Cheers

Every single day someone makes their first dollar online. Gurus were once new at it too. Part of the reason they may be considered gurus is because they've been at it a while. When today's gurus are stepping away to enjoy life more and work less who will take their place? Today's newbies. And you can make some great money along the way. It's all up to you. How much do you want it?

Just be prepared for the learning curve. If you are into computers and the internet stuff. IE know alot about SEO stuff and such you are already ahead of the game. If not the learnign curve is high. Besides there is always the off-line way aswell. Might not make you alot of money right away. This is not a get rich quick scheme.

It is absolutely NEVER to late to get in on IM. Consider all those years of experience everyone else has and tap those resources here on the WF and use their mistakes and flubs to learn from and progress. Number 1 key factor is persistence and motivation. Get up everyday and stick with it and you'll start learning leaps and bounds.

It's never too late. In fact it's even better now,
    than in the past.

Wish I had access to all the knowledge is now
available. Back in the day it was trial and error,
learn by mistakes. It's amazing how many opportunities
are today. Video marketing, PPV, article marketing,
proper SEO knowledge that experts are giving away,
not to mention so many great tools to boost your
    business.

It's too late? Not even close .. It's a great time
    to get started.

I guess there will always be a way to make money monetising information and marketing other people's stuff online.

It's hard to full grasp how fast the internet (and world population for that matter) is growing daily. If you are brand new to the internet scene all you have to do to break into the IM niche is learn something that others don't, and build your business around helping those people that are newer than you.

Don't believe all the guru-talk about how the IM niche is so crowded and blah blah blah. Sure you may have a little problem buying PPC if you're broke, but there's so many other opportunities to put your products in front of others (like WSO's, for example) that you don't really need to advertise with "traditional" methods.

At least, that's my opinion so take it for what it's worth.

    Absolutely! You shouldn't even try!!

Of course not. Just kidding. Entering into "making money online" is never too late.

BUT. There is a but.... Unless you know how to drive good amounts of traffic in competitive niches/markets like the "Make money online/work at home" IM crowd and for instance the health market it might be easier to start out making small websites or web2.0 sites in less competive niches.

    But it's never too late....

    Kisk,

It's never to late to enter into the marketing world of the internet. However, there are some niches where the competition is extremely fierce and it will take a major effort on your part to penetrate those markets.

One of those niche market as an example would be "How To Make Money From Home" niche or targeting the Internet Marketers them self. Please remember this is my opinion only and not a declaration of "The Old Geezer knows best"

Kisk, it is absolutely NEVER too late. Don't let anyone tell you that's true, and don't you dare believe it!

I started out last May knowing NOTHING. I didn't even know what WordPress, HTML, CSS, social bookmarking, article marketing...well, frankly, when I say I knew nothing, I truly mean it. I was good surfing the net, but that's about it. lol

Since that time, I've built up my income monthly and very soon (we're hoping April), I'll be quitting my full-time job to do internet marketing full time and we're also pursuing our dream of buying a small organic farm!

You most certainly can do it and it is never, ever too late.

Yes, it's way too late now. The Internet fad is fading away. You may as well get a job at WalMart or McDonalds.

The big thing to understand is the online market is always changing and evolving, often at a faster pace than offline business. Perhaps the most frustrating thing is that something that was making you good money yesterday may not work tomorrow. You have to learn to roll with the punches and stay ahead of the curve.

I'd also suggest not focusing on the rather narrow Internet Marketing sector but to find roads less traveled that match your interests and knowledge base.

My feeling is that the internet has, and will continue to, completely change the way we do business as well as how money flows in our economy. It is a radical shift and we are the lucky ones who get to ride this new wave - if we do the hard work of building real businesses that provide real benefits.

To open your mind up you might check out these two threads here on the forum:

    I agree -- it's never too late.

Saying it's too late is like saying, "boy, there sure are a lot of doctors -- I guess it's too late for me to get a medical degree."

If you told anyone that, they'd think you're nuts because there are plenty of opportunities for doctors.

The same can be said of just about any career or opportunity. And it applies to opportunities online, too.

The ONLY time it might be too late is if you're trying to cash in on some passing fad. For example, if you tried to set up another "Million Dollar Home Page" or something. But for everything else, opportunity abounds -- and there's no reason you can't get in on the action.

As long as there are products made that people want to buy and as long as there are advertisers who want to advertise and as long as people use internet - it's not too late.

It just depends how hard or how easy it will be.

I think it's harder now to make a lot of money online in a short period of time and without sizable investment in money and/or time on your part. Even though there is much more useful tools and information you can use to minimize that investment.

The only thing that will change constantly is game rules. But the game itself won't stop ever.

My advice to you is to start with something simple. Something that doesn't require much time, money or skill/knowledge before you can see results. Set your goal to start earning $40/day as quickly as possible.

There are a lot of good WSOs you can use to help yourself started.

After achieving that goal, tackle something that requires more investment.

Just start with something that will get you ANY KIND of results as quickly as possible. Trust me, that's the best way to keep yourself motivated and to keep on trying.

If you set your goals too high you'll burn yourself out too quickly and probably give up on the whole IM thing.

    Hope this helps, take care,

    ~Davor
