Identity Theft for CPA Network - Sort of

I just got a call from a fairly new CPA Network called CPA Flash. The guy was calling me because of my new "application " to their network.

Thing is ... I didn't apply for their network. I'm already signed up with a whole bunch of networks. This guy was legit and was as puzzled as I am. I am glad that he does the follow-up and actually phones those who apply. Not all of the networks do that.

We had a nice conversation and I told him if I ever do apply to his network, I'll give him a buzz first so he knows it's not a fake.

Most likely the perp is from this forum, as this is where I'm fairly active. It would be simple enough to get my phone, name and address from whois. I don't use privacy because my websites are for sale and I want people to be able to contact me.

Not sure what this person planned on doing with this account if it had been approved with my name and address and phone number on it. The guy assured me that my social security number had not been submitted.

Has this happened to anyone else here?

I read long time ago on another forum how some members were scammed into signing up to a new cpa company only to get their identity stolen. So, your case isn't surprising.

    Is this possible?
Suppose that someone used your name, email, address and phone nr to apply to cpa network and he got approved, and ran a campaign to promote cpa offers. NOW is it possible to get paid using your identity info? I don't think so
