Using PLR as content hurts site?

OK this may sound like a silly question but I will ask it. If say there is a article package of 10 articles that hundreds of people purchase and use for content can it hurt your site if you even link back to this content?

What I mean by this is if I purchase these 10 articles and then decide to use them as articles at say buzzle, goarticles, hubpages, squidoo and link them back to my website. So I dont actually put the PLR articles on my site I just use them as content for advertising that links back to my site.

I have always wondered if this can hurt your sites ranking in Google just to have that content linking back to your site. I want to buy stuff like this for content on squidoo, hubpages, articles etc. Just to build backlinks and bring traffic to my site, are there any negative SEO impacts from this?

    Hi Corey,

    I know that Squidoo and Hub does not like PLR articles. They want original content.

    I'm sure someone should chime in about if it hurts your own site or not.

    I've always tried to do my best to re-write PLR articles by at least 30% to 40% but noticed that does not even make the grade anymore at EZ so there is some truth to using 100% original content.

    I find it's easier to use PLR articles simply because the research aspect is already done for you and you can quickly re-write in your own words. However, this takes a bit of practice at first.

      Thanks Dean. I have pretty much always taken the safe route here. Odds are these articles wont rank in search engines also, but would be good for places like yahoo answers to provide as answers for questions.

    No, it will not hurt the site you're linking to from the PLR articles. Google won't penalize you for inbound links, only outbound links, except in a few narrow cases where link spamming is painfully obvious.

    However, Google may not count the link, they may discount the link or they may not even index the page. Therefore there is a risk that you won't get any value SEO-wise from the link.

    If duplicate content was such a big issue none of the news sites or article directories would feature on the search engines. Nor would any of the websites which publish content from news sites and article directories.

    One of my test sites is made up from reprint rights articles (it doesn't contain a single piece of original content) and it gets traffic from all the search engines (and continues to earn from Adsense)...

    Many of my sites are made up from unchanged (but well written) PLR and they get traffic from all the search engines - some still get comments from thankful visitors...

    I think you should be more concerned with giving visitors a good experience and making them think they are visiting a professionally run website... On the whole they don't care where the content originates, just how it's presented.

      Hi,

      I have not experienced any problems from using PLR articles either on sites like Squiddo and Hub Pages or on my own sites.

      I have some early sites (2 years old) made up entirely of PLR articles that still receive traffic from google and make money from adsense.

      The only problem with duplicate content that I have noticed is if you use the same content more than once on your site.

    I also use thousands of unedited, decently written PLR articles on many different sites. They rank, sometimes they rank really well (1st page SERPs), they get traffic, they earn money.

    I definitely don't waste my efforts and talents putting exclusive content at places like Squidoo and hub pages. If I'm going to the effort to create unique stuff then those go on my own sites as MY assets, not theirs.

    Corey, don't know about Hub but I think Squidoo doesn't allow 'unedited' PLR content.

    I would change the article title and rewrite at least 50% of the content, just to be on the safe side.
