Facebook Advertising Results - Actual Real World numbers

OK,

I have been playing around a little with facebook advertising. I am not going to get into specific offers here but I tried several including re-direct to some of the more popular facebook products (farmville, mafia wars, etc). I also used cpc and cpm.

I used above average graphics/creatives, well crafted ads and pretty specific marketing demographics (as best I could within the options provided)

Here are some brief observations:
The good:
#1 - There is no doubt facebook can deliver you an amazing amount of impressions - whatever you need, they can deliver - for 1 campain I had over 171,000 impressions in a 24 hour period.
#2 - you can make a lot of demographic targeting of your ad to narrow who is exposed to the ad.

The Bad (In my opinion)

#1 - The conversion ratio's are horrible

#2 - The click through rate is much lower than I could have ever dreamed - at this point on a /cpm basis the click through, even on my best ad is around .1% - yes, 1 tenth of 1 % that means 1 click/1,000!

#3 - On the ads I tried pay per click (average cost per click around .40 cents) they sometimes were displaying 2,000 impressions to get 1 click - now that was for a farmville product that is pretty common on the site.

#4 - The recommend price they suggest for both cpm/cpc is way too high in my opinion.

For those of you considering facebook I would say this - do a lot of testing before you commit a lot of money to this - they will deliver the amount of traffic you want to your daily budget no problem - but your conversions may not be anywhere near what you are hoping.

What conversion rates are you getting?

From my experience, Facebook converts VERY WELL with CPA offers. For those offers you mention, I'm getting between a single to double digit conversion rates.

It seems like you're trying to parallel Facebook Ads with other PPC platforms.

It's an entirely different animal - just like Adwords SEARCH and CONTENT network. World of difference. Making any comparisons is like trying to compare apples to oranges.

BTW, getting 0.1% in CTR is quite good. Congratz on that! REMEMBER this is NOT PPC where anything below 1% sucks. This is DISPLAY/CPM ADVERTISING and anything in the 0.1% range & above is good.

Just to inform you, I'm personally making $10,000+ a day on Facebook Ads alone and there's ALOT of money to be made. I know someone who makes $1 million per month on Facebook and he gets invited to Facebook conferences.

      Hey Viane,

Yeah - I figured out that this is a little different animal than I am used too - I am playing around with this to try and figure it out - I have not been redirecting to cpa offers as of yet, that was what I was going to test next.

On the affiiate conversions (mostly click bank products) I was only getting around 1% conversions - so it just was not working out.

What cpa offers are you using - are you talking the free ipad type offers ? or others ?

      Thanks,

      Chris

        Hehe... NO WONDER!!!

Cost Per Sale products do not convert well with Facebook... it's a well-known fact...

Anyways, it's awesome that u managed to get it to convert...

Try CPA offers and you'll start ballin'...

I'm promoting those offers you mentioned - downloads and toolbar type offers.

        Sent you a PM.

Wow, that's quite a statement! Is it all from CPA offers? I'd appreciate anything else you can share about this.

I just tried promoting a clickbank product on Facebook.

The recommended CPC was so high that I'd have to convert over 3% to sales.

So I went with a lower CPC so that I'd only need a 1% conversion rate to break EVEN.

I let the ad run for over a week and since my PPC was lower than the reco I only got 2k impression and DID NOT GET A SINGLE CLICK. Lol

Facebook is DEFINITELY different than Google.. That's for sure!!

Thanks for the stats. 1 click per 1000 impressions on Facebook - I'm not sure why you think that is so horrible given the medium. Most people are there to exchange personal news and photos with family and friends. They're not searching for answer to a problem, as on a search engine.

Probably not in my opinion. It depends on the EPC on the CPA offers.
I am also thinking about advertising CPAs offers on Facebook as well.
But if the EPC is too less then statistically. I may lose money. Based on the
CTR or impression I've got on the ads.

By the way... Do I have to worry about the position of the ads like I do
    in Google?
