Creating Info products

Hi, what would be the biggest obstacle you've faced in creating an info product?
Were you able to get past the obstacle and if so how?

I'm trying to figure out certain problems that have come up with some products I'm working on and I'm wondering how common these problems are and how Info Products are approached by others,
Thanks

I think making it useful enough that people will recommend it to others is the biggest challenge. And to do this, there is no substitute for testing with real people.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Creating the product is not a problem at all.. Depends upon what the product is as some could require more time then others to create.

Sometimes there is aproblem in selling the product but again this also depends upon how you are trying to sell it and who you are selling it too..

Yes what dvduval said is one great obstacle most specially when using the common advice of "pack them into an ebook and sell for $xx". This method while seem very easy to do often results to a poor quality info product.

I agree with James and Mark.
I have 2 wso's I've been working on what seems to be forever. Why? because I have good technical knowledge of the subject, but I'm a lousy writer.
    And I know I am.
I have had 3 different people either rewrite it or make changes to it so far and it is still not in a saleable format in my opinion. I even listened to others and temporarily changed the direction of the product.
I'm still working on it and hopefully will have it ready to sell, but for the time being it's rework and rewrite till it feels right.

    I'd guess:

    (1) getting the word out in your marketplace, and
    (2) differentiating your product from those of your competitors

The product I'm working on right now (ebook) is really tough because it's in a seriously underserved market, but it's about something I really have little interest in. But the potential is just so enormous that I'm obsessed, so I'm forcing myself to do the research and write the words to get it to ebook length without being full of fluff. The next challenge will be coming up with a price, because there is literally ZERO competition in this market for a good ebook, and I know from prior experience that changing ebook prices in midstream steps on a lot of toes (previous customers).

I haven't cleared either obstacle, but I'm highly motivated to get into this niche. Major upside if I can nail the product creation. It will probably get big search engine traffic without a ton of marketing from the lack of competition. And no, I won't be telling anyone the niche. LOL I've invested too much time and some $$$ into discovering it.
