Permission to use and or quote someones content.

I have a client that I have been assisting with a website. They had effectively copied all of their articles from various means such as PDF;s websites, etc. What is the proper etiquette for citation or quoting. I think regardless it is best to put a hyperlink back to the original work no matter if the work has been pieced together or whether it has been quoted or whatever...

Could some of you more experienced warriors assist me on this one? Thank you in advance. I know this could be put in copywriting forum but felt this was better suited here. Mods feel free to move it if its not in the right category.

Thanks everyone.

You always need permission. When you ask for it, also ask how the person wants credit to be given. When I only use a sentence or two, however, I quote it and link back to the original source.

    Hi goliathseo,
generally the main thing is to put a link back to their website but you can also say things like....As evident in charlie's weight loss guide...blahblahblah. That is sufficient!
