Will Google Destroy Facebook For Advertising Dollars?

I hear facebook is making big strides competing for advertisers dollars. They are more targeted ads, can narrow down to demographics, age, gender etc... And they are cheaper!

Will Facebook take a big chunk out of Google adwords profits? Whats everyones opinion?

FB is big but still not big enough to compare to Google. I think eventually G may buy them in the future rather than destroy them

    They're two, completely different animals.

Facebook has far superior demographic filtering based on profile settings. But it's still a passive intent. People might be highly targeted, but the ad doesn't necessarily hit them when they're actively interested in the particular topic. Therefore, the advertiser needs to develop a different backend process of conversion.

Google has superior intent measureability because it's based on an active search action. You know someone is interested in that particular topic right that moment because they entered the keyword to search.

These are two very different approaches, and have different effects on different campaign types.

    The simple answer is:

    No....

The more complicated answer is one to be discussed in a whole other thread, imho.

Google advertising and Facebook advertising aren't even closely comparable.
