I just wanted to pass along something kind of eye-opening that a fairly well known IM'er mentioned to me in a recent discussion. He said:

"Don't get stuck in 'Either-Or' mode."

What he meant was to avoid the trap in your business of thinking you have to choose one or the other every time you face a fork in the road. Find ways to take both paths.

This guy's a big proponent of outsourcing the time consuming parts of your business that you can train others to do pretty easily. I confess I haven't done this nearly enough, and it has definitely been a mistake in my business. I'm not nearly as far along on several projects as I would be had I let go of my need to control everything sooner.

But it's not just about outsourcing more. It's also about using automation in the things you still do yourself. I use Roboform, for example. And tools like Big Mike's ArticleBot and other software.

When you incorporate outsourcing and automation tools, those forks in the road stop being obstacles. They become new opportunities.

Peace.

John

In the book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, T Harv Eker details the differences in how the poor and the middle class think from how a millionaire thinks. One of the differences is that when confronted with either/or decisions and both options are desirable, the poor and middle class make a choice (or waffle indefinitely) while the millionaire looks for ways to have both.

So, you're starting to think like a millionaire now!

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

      Good post, John

This is an important concept... and online it can be applied in many different ways. Your post gives one, excellent example of the problem that Either / Or thinking can cause.

When working with my offline clients, I try to educate them that Either / Or Thinking is one of the biggest differences between Offline and Online.

When it come to the physical / real / concrete/ however you want to think about it... *Either / Or* is a common strategy or process.

In the virtual / online world, *Either / Or* often creates Limitations... which in turn creates far more problems than it solves.

    easier said than done.

seriously, they've done brain studies on this, and it's a rare talent to be able to
hold two opposing thoughts in your head at the same time.

those who are really good at it, you'll often find at the top of large corporations.

    think Jack Welch of GE...

so, although very good advice (and yes, we should all strive to do it), genetics
    play a role in this...

PS: this should NOT stop you from following John's advice: automate and outsource
as much as possible. A fine example would be Russell Brunson, just listen to his
story -- he over and over emphasizes that he -- from the start -- outsourced
pretty much everything he didn't know how to do immediately.
