A Great Product Creation Idea!

Hi Friends,

I just came across this wonderful product creation idea and i wish to share it with you. Though i'm yet to try it, i hope to do so soon and i just want to know what you think about it.
The idea in a nutshell is this:

Look for a good 'hobby' that has lots of searches online,
Create a 'how-to' info product on this particular hobby,
Sell it in instructional DVD format.

Let me explain it more in details:
The hobbies niche, i just found out, is one very lucrative niche that has lots of hungry market. More and more people want to know how to perform a particular hobby of interest. If you go to about.com ( a good site for online research) and then you go to the 'hobbies and games' section, you'll see a list of hobbies such as Beadwork, Neddlepoint, Jewelry Making, Woodworking, Pottery, Knitting e.t.c.
These hobbies have a lot of people wanting to know more about them.
What you need to do is create an info product that shows people how to do these hobbies.

You don't need to be an expert yourself in a particular hobby. After you have made your research and found a particular hobby that has lots of searches online, the next thing to do is to look for an expert who has the knowledge of this particular art and work with him in creating an instructional DVD on how to perform the hobby.

How do you get an expert to work with?
Well there are two ways to go about this. Let's say, for example, your hobby of interest is Pottery...

The first method of finding an expert is to visit forums related to Pottery, join the forum and in no time you could get an expert in it whom you could outsource the job to.

The second method is to go to Amazon and search for books written on Pottery when you've found a book written on it, you take the author's name and use it to do a search on Google in an effort to get his personal website. From his personal website you can then get his contact details.

After you've found your expert, the next step is to contact him and see if he'll agree to video himself as he demonstrates his art. A price range within $500-$2000 will be a good offer for the job. After you've both agreed on a price, you proceed to send him a camcorder and tell him how you want the job done. And once he's through with the job you pay him his cash.

Next, you need to edit the video to make it more professional. You could get an editing software to do it yourself or you could outsource this task to freelancers at elance.com or guru.com. The result is a very high quality DVD ready for you to market.

Now your product is ready, how do you get traffic?
Simple. Just place segments of your video on free video hosting sites such as YouTube.
Towards the end of your segmented video, you should direct people to your website where they can know more about the 'hobby' and how to do it. Your website should be a sales page that sells your DVD.
Before long, you should be getting tons and tons of free traffic to your website from your videos on YouTube and other video hosting sites, and this can lead to huge sales of your product.

This strategy works. We all know that videos are the in thing now and are proven to generate sales more than ebooks. Besides, with this business model, action speaks louder than words and people will love to see how it works rather than read how it works.

Please let me know what you think about this business model and if you've tried it before how did it turn out for you.

To your success,
Jude.A

Jude, you have lots of good ideas here. The point where I feel it breaks down (...and this is only my opinion)...is in believing that you'll find an expert who will wait around to get your camcorder in the mail, set it up, videotape themselves, and send it back. The inconvenience factor is just a little too much; I'd be surprised if you were able to find anyone willing to do that. (I wouldn't). However, if you could find someone locally, and you built repor with that person, and they'd be willing to let you videotape them, then you might have a solution to this issue. Just my 2-cents and heck...you never know!

Well, when you consider the cash you'll pay this expert to get the job done then the 'inconvenience factor' wouldn't really be there. Remember that most of these guys aren't entrepreneurs, a fee of within $500 -$2000 will be a great offer to do something they love doing and probably do everyday with or without being paid.

All the same, i learnt this method from a 'guru' i trust online and i'm willing to give it a try.

Thank you very much for your reply though, i'm glad you could air your view on it.

      Have a nice day.
      Jude.
