Amount of work to change Wordpress theme?

I've been doing some research into which WordPress theme to go with, (Thesis, Headway, Frugal, etc)... I've narrowed it down (for me) to either Headway or Frugal, but it occurred to me that I should first consider, how important is this decision? ie if I change my mind 3 or 6 months down the road, what is work involved in switching a mid-sized website with maybe several dozen pages (not just a blog) over to a different theme? ie do you have to cut and paste everything into the new theme (ie a lot of work?)? Or are there shortcuts or ways to automate this? (Maybe this is a WordPress question -- I'm just starting to learn Wordpress).

(The answer to this Q, of course, would determine if I want to spend any more time researching themes... If it's easy to switch, I'll just dive into one or the other).

    Like 3.2 seconds. All you do is switch the theme and replicate any modifications you made to the new theme - ad displays, opt-in boxes, etc.

    Themes are made to be easily interchangeable.

    I do it in less than 5 seconds to switch to another theme once I get tired with theme especially there are so many free themes around if you bother to google for it.

    If you are going in and modifying the stylesheets, which
    is probably beyond your present skills, then when you change
    themes you'll lose some of the work. Other than that, theme
    changes are pretty painless.

    The one thing to remember when happily switching themes, which I agree can be down with a few mouse clicks is this.

    Not all themes support all Wordpress features. Some have a left hand border, a right or none. Swap from one to the other and some of your widgets will vanish. You can easily rejig it by adding them in again but its something to consider.

    From a content stand point their is no problem. The possible problem is, as mentioned above, with any customization you have done or had done to your current theme.

    Most plug-ins will work with most themes providing there is no version conflicts - ie. older themes may not support certain plug-ins. Some newer themes have built in functionality causing you to not need certain plug-ins.

    The biggest thing to keep in mind, with base installs, is that you will need to consider YOUR preferences in using widgets. Themes are different in the number of columns and also you may need to adjust it to accommodate some widgets you are currently using.

        You may find it useful to test different themes. Bearing in mind that you may lose some widgets, but you can get over that. If for instance you have a theme with an inner and outer rigght side bar and you are changing ot a three column theme, change your widgets gbefore you start. Agaiun it is a five second job open then up and save somewhere else.
