Wrote the Opt In Report - Now What?

I just wrote an opt in report for one of my sites. I put it in PDF format.

I have my autoresponder set up also.

I am unsure of my next step to connect my readers with the report. Do I add it as an attachment to the autoresponder? If so where do I host it?

All help appreciated.

  • Put the .pdf file on your website, say something like http://www.affiliateinabox.com/pdfreport.pdf (i.e., if I was using my domain, but you would replace your domain here)

Then, when they 'opt-in' (after the double opt-in, assuming you are using aweber), simply list a link for them, i.e.,

"Thanks! Download your report now by clicking here: http://www.affiliateinabox.com/pdfreport.pdf"

If it's non WPress ('cos I need to update/remind myself of the WP process anyway), upload it to your web host, then tie it in with your autoresponder account. PM me if you need a walk-through

I do say I am technically challenged but I am trying . Is this pdf report added to the site as a page or post?
Or is it hosted through my CPanel or how do I accomplish this?

Upload the file to your site. Then just make a link on the page which links to that file. This can be in a post or a page, doesn't matter.

Then just send your subscribers, old and new, a link to that page/post.

If you use Aweber, you can simply attach the file to the first message in the autoresponder series. This eliminates the need for hosting and securing the file.

You can definitely do this, but be aware that some people won't open anything with an attachment if it's not from someone they already know. If you decide to go this route, maybe put some copy on the bottom of your opt in box that states they'll receive their free report as an email attachment.

        Exactly.

Also, if it's a simple pdf, don't zip it. The pdf filetype is something that most are used to seeing in emails.

Are you putting the attachment on the Thank you sign up page? Or are you putting it the next email?

This is on a WP site and I do have aweber.

I would like the report to be available for immediate download or give a link for immediate download.

I am a little unclear how I would put that on the WP site. Do I put it on as a page?

Also I would like to send previous subscribers a link to it.

        Thank you all!!!

Okay, then it's very easy! Simply upload the pdf file into your Media (it's in the lefthand column of your WordPress admin panel) and once it's uploaded, at the bottom of the box, you'll see that it's been given an URL. Simply use that url to hyperlink to the report within the copy of your thank you email on Aweber!

Need any other help with this, just let me know!

Maybe I should clarify that when you upload your pdf to the Media section of your WordPress website, that's where it will be "hosted".

    Thanks everyone.

Lisa that worked perfectly. However I do notice it has the upload date on it. Is there a way to get that not to show so its more dateless?

Also do you usually put the link in the Thank you box to new subscribers or in another email?

    Thank you!!!

      You're welcome!

What I do is create a page without a title and say something like "Thank you for confirming your opt-in/joining/subscribing - click here for your free download/report/elephant!" Then in your Aweber list settings, where it gives you the option to enter a Confirmation Success Page, put the URL to that page on your site. Or, if you want to make it even simpler, you can just put the URL to the download and the download will automatically start when they confirm. (I think...)

        Sweet.

Ok now I am already to go with my new email sign up but I am not sure where to post it at my website. My site already has a sign up for Mailchimp which I will get rid of.

So if I can get that figured out I am good to go..thanks all!!!

Always drive them to a page on your site vs. attaching or sending a direct link to the PDF.

It gets their eyeballs on your web site. Now, you may not be pushing anything on them right now, but it gives you the opportunity to connect with them in a different media (albeit slightly - web vs email) and it gives you the opportunity to have a message of whatever type you like on the page to go with the freebie download.

Additionally, it puts your web site in their browser's history, so they may run across it while typing another url or browsing their history. Anything to re-connect/re-expose (in a clean way) yourself.
