Aweber + Facebook = Fast FREE list...

This has probably been covered here many times, but I thought I'd throw this out there for those struggling to find ways to create a list.

I've recently been experimenting w/ facebook fan pages and aweber forms to build lists. If you use the right keywords when naming your fan page, and use an enticing image, you can build a list in no time. Now like in any list building you do, you have to of course use the proper keywords and enticements to get a list that will respond, so keep that in mind. Then if you also use some of the viral techniques others have talked about here on the forum, you could have a very large and responding list in no time.

Here's an example of list building for the farmville niche:

FarmVille - Free No Wither Crops are Here... Free No-Wither Crops Here... | Facebook

And here's instructions on how to put a form on your facebook fan page:

Good Luck.

Edit - thought I should mention, aweber is not free, so technically it's not completely free. But for the most part, the technique is free.

Looking at the vid, this should work with any flavour of Autoresponder, not just Aweber

I haven't tried it w/ others, but I'm sure you're right. Just as long as javascript isn't needed to make it work. I think that facebook rejects most javascript forms. I could be wrong.

    Hey Gary,

Thanks for the share. I'm currently experimenting with FB fan pages and building the number of fans to these pages. Which method of traffic generation do you use to get people to your page? Do you use paid ads, recommending to friends or just by using quality content on a page?

I wondered if using a fanpage for an opt-in is limited until you get your 20k fans and have verified the page as your own with FB. i know that it is for marketing the likes of CPA offers etc.

    Cheers,

    Michael

I've used paid ads in the past to give it a kick-start. But if you use the right keywords, people will find your page using facebook's search. And if you do your own searches on facebook, you'll find many viral techniques being used. Just do a search on facebook for any commonly used word, like "the" - and you'll come up w/ a huge list of pages that have over a million fans. Look at the names they give their pages, and then see how the page is set up. It will give you a good idea on what works.

    Thanks for that, Gary.

This is the kind of thing that more marketers could be doing. Assuming, of course, it fits in with their overall plan.

Even if it's not a major part of one's marketing efforts, it's certainly a good way to pick up a few extra subscribers.

Don't forget to code the opt-in form so you know where the subscribers are coming from.

    Thanks again, and...

    All the best,

Yes Michael but the problem is many are abusing this and really start to tick of many facebook users. Many are getting sick of the "Request: Join My I Want To Spam You Fan Page"

There is at least one "marketer" (I use that term very loosely) I know of that has 6 facebook accounts and atleast 12 fan pages and spamming everyone left and right. I removed him from my friends and reported him because I got tired of the 12 request every single day to join his fan pages (dog training, makeup, and etc)..

See this is the kind of stuff that ruins it for everybody because people misuse and abuse it. The fact is a fan page is for a business and not a internet marketer. Go create a fan page and look at the categories, do you see any that say "internet marketing" .. I can answer that, no...

Facebook created a way for people to make money and that is by facebook ads and facebook apps. You are allowed to add cpa to facebook apps but you are not allowed to add them to fan pages or slap affiliate links out there.

Smart marketers are using apps for marketing and not fan pages. I will say there are some like Ron Douglas that are using fan pages "properly" but the sad fact many are not and before it is over with it will be ruined.

Why does this happen ?? Because many are greedy and all they can think of is how much they can abuse another site to squeeze money out of it. They care nothing about being social, they care nothing about the users, they only care about how much money they can get.

Look at what happened to MySpace, what is happening to twitter, guess who is next in line to be ruined by wannabe marketers ???

The best way to rock this, Don't put a list at first on your new page. Start the page make it something trendy or target your demographics that you want on your list or those who would be the best people for your product.

Use the leverage of a current trend, product and even a celebrity. (If you do put a note stating it is not the official fan page just a fan merely wanting meet other fans). CYA disclosure.

I would then send invites to friends on your list that would meet the demographics or audience you are targeting. Or better yet! Use Facebook PPC and target your keywords and demographics using CPM Cost Per 1000 Impressions.

(Some cool pages right now, I would bet a that this pickle will get more fans than the band Nickle back) In the millions, now they are selling a Cafepress shirt with a pickle on it saying I am a fan of the Facebook page. lol clever stuff.

Run it til you get about 1000-2000 fans then place a opt-in form via FBML like video above on it and write a wall post explaining that you have a cool newsletter going out with (insert benefit here) videos or other cool tips and stuff.

All along make a cool wall post linking to a video or article that shows something cool or a benefit/tip. (Not too spammy) Cut your PPC off at 5k or so probably cost about 20 bucks total.

By then it will go viral due to others seeing their friends becoming a fan. Use FBML to place the autoresponder code and use some nice picture in autoresponder form of a ebook or some free stuff.

The opt-ins will pour in!! Trust me List building on steroids. I have yet to see any list building course teach this yet. Cutting edge.

This is what I have been testing and doing and it has been unbelievable. So all those people saying Facebook isn't a money maker. Here is a simple tip =)

I like that tip and will give it a go. I have noticed that the opt-in form does slow down the page from going viral some times, so maybe putting it on later will be of greater value. I'll have to test that one - thanks for sharing it.

    You are right, James.

My comments are only aimed at those who would use this method in the best possible way. One of the main things is keeping everything relevant. As marketers, we, to some degree, create our prospect's expectations; however, they also come to our pages with pre-determined expectations. When either set of expectations are out of synch, they tend to alienate or frustrate our visitors.

    All the best,
    Michael

The one thing about fan pages and friend lists that people don't get, is that you really technically can't be spammed by them. If you have a friend on your list, it's because you put them there. And if you can see the messages from a fan page on your own page, it's only because you've chosen to be a fan.

So if you're being bugged by "spam" on facebook, it's simply because you don't understand how to set your permissions for that page, person, or application. Any messages that make it to your facebook home page, make it there because you've allowed it to be there - therefore negating the very definition of spam.

Not the spam I am talking about, the spam I am talking about is so-called friends that spam you with join this fan page and that fan page because they got some stupid facebook marketing script and ebook that told them to use facebook as a marketing platform.

      As my status reads
Ok now look people seriously, I realize some stupid marketers are running around telling people to build facebook fan pages for marketing purposes. Sending me request left and right to join this fan page and that fan page about "Marketing" is not going to get me on your list... Hey I got an idea, we are on a social network - WHY NOT TRY BEING SOCIAL WITH SOMEONE!!! James
