Sell an IPhone for £1000 (=$1500) ??!

Just seen this on ebay:

Brand New Apple iPhone 3GS Black (16GB) Cell Phone on eBay (end time 09-Mar-10 16:44:17 GMT)

Why is it selling for such a high price, you can get one on the highstreet for about £500.

Is there good money in buying iPhones new and selling them on eBay, or did I miss something special here?

This is an extreme example but most of the phones are selling above the RRP price available in major stores on eBay.

Whoa!

    Heya Martin,

I would imagine it is one of those 'mug' adverts that attracts people that don't have a clue about a product. The advertiser is hoping for an impulse purchase.

Personally, I couldn't sleep with myself charging so much over the odds.

Is it worth going into? Ethics aside - maybe, but it seems a risky proposition unless you are an ebay expert.

A definite no go area for me, I think.

Have you found any other examples around that price?

I know when I have sold mobiles on eBay in the past, the fraud bids used to come in thick and fast from the likes of Nigeria and those were for way higher than the phone`s actual value (they tried the old "do you ship abroad" scam).

Not saying this is the case for that IPhone listing but the winning bidder looked like a new eBay user who is now no longer registered.
