When I was submitting my article to goarticles, I saw a link pointing to Free Web Submission: Free Search Engine Submission and Site Promotion. The site offers free web submission service. When it mentioned free in their site, I become suspicious. What is the catch? However, I have submitted my site there because I want to test and measure... Please help me to understand this. |

It's free because it is useless IMHO. You will get better results from linking from relevant forums and sites that get high traffic.

Couldn't agree more. Those submissions are pretty much a waste of time. The search engines will find your site on their own. In fact, submitting to sites can actually hurt your rankings for a short time. I think it's okay to stick with the major ones but I wouldn't use an automated service.

When I type site:http//www.mydomainname.com in google, it is listed but when I did the same thing for Yahoo, it is not right there.. Perhaps, I have to wait a little longer.. I have no problem of my site getting indexed within 24 hours in Google but for yahoo I have a challenge that I still can't solve till now. I might be doing something wrong.. |

The "catch" is that usually after signing up, you will get bombarded by e-mails to buy something, and hopefully that by being "free", you will tell your friends (i.e., in this forum like you did, so obviously that strategy works) so that they check out the service, and hopefully use it as well. And, eventually some people do. The service actually is "somewhat" useful (but you should evaluated sites on a site by site basis). This particular site looks like it may have some (marginal) value. You can always try it out on a 'test' site to see what kinds of results you get, and then use it for other sites if the results are good. |
