Do you accept PayPal eChecks?

Have been receiving orders via PayPal eCheck for downloadable products.

Problem: eChecks take 4 days to clear.

1ShoppingCart does not release the download link until the eCheck clears, but I can send it out manually.

Should I wait until the check clears to release links (potentially unhappy customers)? Or give them the link manually (potential issues with checks not clearing)?

Have you had any issues with eChecks?

Thanks so much!

Rob

I have been using Paypal to receive echecks for some customers (very small percentage) and download link is given before clearing. No problems for now (touchwood).

The best way to deal with it in my opinion is to wait until the echeck clears. I don't think the customer would be unhappy. A legit buyer will understand that you cannot deliver a product(digital or physical) until you receive payment. If the buyer try to force the issue (want the product before clearance), he is probably trying to game the system. I have been in both sides of this type of transaction and never had any trouble.

By all means accept echecks. Many people talk about echecks as if it is something vicious. If you don't accept it, you are losing customers. There are people out there who don't have credt cards or keep enough balance in their paypal account. If you don't give these people an option to give you their money, soemone else will.

    Just my .02 cents.

I leave it until cleared. Occasionally people email saying the download got 'stuck' etc... Once I explain what happened they are cool about it...

Three of the four echecks I accepted bombed so I stopped using that feature.

If the customer doesn't have money in their paypal account or a debit or credit card, they aren;t really the type of customer you would want, would you?

I leave it to PP and my script to deliver the product when the cheque clears. If someone e-mails me asking where their product is, I point out that it is PP's policy to wait 4 days. No angry customers - after all, it was their choice to use e-cheques.

Thanks everyone for your counsel -- the eChecks started rolling in and I drew a blank on how to deal with it.

Also discovered this thread on eChecks which might prove helpful.

Alot of info in it, including how to stop accepting eChecks.

I do accept them, but unlike previously, they have to clear before I will deliver the product. And just recently, we automated the delivery after clearing.
