Way to Verify Valid US Addresses in Bulk?

Hey everyone,

I have a list of businesses from a database and am getting ready to send letters, the only problem is that when I sent some out in the past, some came back as undeliverable.

I know that I can go to the USPS (United States Postal Service) website and verify the addresses, one at a time, but who has that kind of time, lol.

Can anyone recommend a program or service that does this?

Thanks!

Matt

    Hi, Matt!

That's a great question. If no one knows of a source for this type of research, I think it may be a good business for someone to start!

I have had letters returned to me before, with no way of getting a good address. The USPS is not very helpful, either. I was told that you can stamp the envelope "Return to Sender showing current address" but the USPS states that they do not have a stamp offering that service.

In addition, if the recipient of your letter moves from the address you have on file, and their "USPS Forward Mail" request expires (mail will be forwarded for a maximum of 6 months), then your letter will be returned to you without any way to find out the recipient's most current address.

Other than paying for "skip searches" you may be able to hire a high school or college student to find the information for you for a nominal fee based on the number of addresses you need researched.

    Good luck!

The postal service will do this for you. Just bring them a .csv file containing your entire list and they will run it through their address correction database. Don't know if they charge for that these days, but I used to do this often, years ago.

Thanks for the info Gene, I just might try that tomorrow!

ijohnson, yes this is a frustrating situation.

I've seen some companies offer to do this for free when you are sending through them, but the service I'm using doesn't do it.

Ugh, this shouldn't be that hard, but it is!?!
