ezine articles loads of profile views no url clicks

Hi Warriors,

I wonder if anyone can shed some light on an interesting reaction I seem to be getting.

I am just starting article marketing and making a few mistakes. I have some articles whare are getting viewed, but very url clickthroughs - but loads of profile views. I mean more then ten times the profile views to url clicks.

Has anyone any theories why? and what are all those people looking at the profile for?

I realise now that I have a weak resource box - so that explains the low click throughs - but why all the profile views?

I am working on making my articles a little less "complete" (still a full article but leaving the reader wanting more!) and a better resource box, so I am hoping that the next few I submit will get better click throughs - but still the profile views thing is puzzling (well at least to me!)

    It might be something to do with your niche - I know as a marketer I often check out other marketers profiles.

    For your consideration...

    To get a click is the goal we all usually share because that comes before any sale can be realized...

    Every single character and space in your article are very important... as are all the other elements of article writing and copywriting.

    ... Including structure, grammar, spelling, format, and of course content...

    Personally I write some articles not even positioned to get a click... because I am testing 'curioisty' and not a call-to action in that one.

    Perhaps people are seeing something in your profile that turns them away fast and they never go back to get a chance to click your URL...

    And of course a weak resource box is a viable reason on its own as well.

    If your headlines are decent enough that you are getting 'reads' ... it's probably obvious to you that you're losing people somewhere else. So test everything one piece at a time and see if you can spot the trend.

    PS - And if you're signing your articles 'redandgold' I'd never click your link either. People prefer to deal with real people, not an alias... and some people are certain that you have something to hide and/or you're just a rank noob when you don't use your real name as well...

      Do you have a "call to action" in your resource box? In other words, are you telling them in not so many words that their life is going to suck unless they visit your site and download your free whatever, "right now"??

      That's what I do, and it seems to work ok!

        Mostly profile is checked by your compitition who are also working in the same niche and as soon as some other player enters they want to see what that guy is upto. However, with just ten views i don't think you are gonna get more click throughs , give it some time if the info that you have put on the article is interesting enough you will get url clicks

          Unless you are in a "super secret" niche that has very little competition maybe you can share one of your articles with us?

          There might be one or two things that someone could suggest that could turn everything around for you.

              If you just started it will take time, I saw this type of behavior when I first started.

              More than likely the competition checking you out.

              I would suspect your articles have not had enough time out there to get other people to check you out in the rankings.

                One thing I've noticed, and not sure if this holds true for everyone elses articles, is the pen names I use with women names seem to get a much higher profile view then my men pen names.

                So my conclusion, for me anyways, is that they are trying to check out the pics of the women.

                  I can't answer the question about why you're getting so many profile views
                  because I never really thought about that part of the equation, but you
                  answered your own question as far as the low clickthrough...poor resource

                  Incredibly well.

                  Yeah, you have to start thinking like a copywriter and NOT like an article

                    Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. I am aware how awful my resource box is - and I now know how to fix it. I also suspect that my articles aren't really "selling" - I saw a few very useful threads on the old forum - and I am watching this one closely!

                    I plan that future articles will be complete articles but onlu give incomplete solutions - I think it was a post by Steven Wagenheim on how to write articles that make the reader want to know more (he gave four examples of articles to draw people in!)

                    And a friend has bought for me Allen Graves book - which I have now read about four times!

                    I am planning to do better in future - but if anyone wants to look at my existing articles and critique then I would be very gateful.

                    You can see the number of views they have had - also all three articles have had two "publishers" and between them there have now been 3 url clicks - and 27 publisher views! Is it worth me editing them and changing the resource box? If so suggestions grately appreciated!

                      Your public profile is very important. You need to go edit it asap, because it has some glaring errors, like this one:

                      "I learned all I needed to know to help myself then i studied further - becasue I love learning."

                      You absolutely must have zero spelling and grammar errors in your profile. You're building a reputation with your words there. Be careful!

                I submitted close to 10 articles on ecover graphics design and in less than one week
                i had 500 article views and 250 profile views with an increase in the number of visitors
                to my site. Article marketing does work. I think most of that traffic come from the major search engines also and not just from ezinearticle visitors alone.

                The three ingredients i used were:
                1. a catchy headline/title
                2. invaluable content
                3. optimized article with low search terms
                4. persuasive resource box.

    Steven Wagenheim is right on the money. Everything you do is selling and the end result that selling aims at is action. You want your readers to take the action of visiting your website. So you've got to make sure you give them a compelling reason to get this reaction.

    Another tip for you is what carrot you put in your resource box. What do I mean by that?

    Well you have to come up with something that appeals to your target audience in a big way. A quick way to find out what this is is by searching forums related to your market.

    Quickly scan down and look for what readers are frustrated with or find hard to do. Take note of where the same frustrations or difficulties keep coming up. The more you see the same thing the more people are anxious for a solution.

    Now if your website offers the answer you're sure going to increase your website traffic. Try it and I hope this improves your results.

    Something many people are overlooking is something I recently posted about, which happens to be a major problem for any business online...that is;

    TRUST.

    People want to know who you are and if they should take your advice.

    But the other factor is competition spying, which can't be avoided. But you can only give them what you put in your profile, which is hardly going to be beneficial for the competition.

    Again, I think this is more to do with trust which is more of an issue in certain markets than others.
