Hey dear warriors, need some help here.

Let's say I have a subscriber signing up through my 2 of list. But how can I just send one broadcast to him/her when I send broadcasts to both list?

Cheers,
iYingHang

Are they individually signing up for 2 different list that you have? If you're sending the same emails to both list then you could just manually remove him from one of the list to prevent duplication, if they are the same, if not then when sending emails that are the same remove his name.

You can just manually unsubscribe them from a list, that way when you send a broadcast, he will only receive one.

However, this is not a really great solution, because often times it is GOOD to have the same lead on multiple lists for segmentation purposes.

Example: one list for BUYERS of product X, and one list for BUYERS of product Y.

If Customer A bought both product X and Y, you want them on both lists, because what if you need to send a broadcast with an update to product Y, but you removed Customer A from that list to avoid duplicates?

See where I am going with this?

That was what I was thinking.

That is totally true, and I do have people subscribed to two of my lists. However, the OP was asking a way to send a broadcast, without sending it to the sub, twice.

There are two options that i know of, remove from one, or use the automation tool in Aweber.

I recall reading some documentation mentioning that Aweber automatically parses your email lists and if you are sending a broadcast to multiple lists, it will only send ONE copy to an email address that appears on more than 1 of the selected lists.

Maybe your subscriber signed up under different addresses? Hence Aweber has no way to know it's the "same person" since it's a different email?

I've never had complaints of this issue, but I do specifically recall reading about this.

It should be sending it to one list, if it is a broadcast.

But aweber really "sucks" lately. My partner and I are thinking of moving our lists to different auto responder. Here is the biggest issue on why: Recently we invested $600 into traffic source and no body could click the link. We contacted aweber, and guess what...They said if you have skype running, there is interference and the email message generated in aweber will not work.

The problem is, no where do they state this on their site. and they would not refund the money.

You serious about aWeber? Skype? WTH? Seems like aWeber is a bad choice!

Yeah. Agreed! Last December, their database was said to be hacked by hackers and since then, I have been having SPAM mails.

This is an interesting quote. Explain exactly what you mean:
        • What was the traffic source?
        • Was the problem on the "email creation" end or with the recipients?
        • Did you test your email message and links before sending and, if so, did they work properly?

This is a very public forum and in my and many other people's experience AWeber performs well. Yes, they did get hacked last year, but almost no company is immune to that. I am curious what features caused your problems.

  • Here is an answer to your problem from someone who has been using AWeber for the last 7 years:

When you send a broadcast you have the option of sending it to multiple lists. Check the box that says "send to multiple lists" (it's at the bottom of the broadcast creation page), choose the other lists you want your broadcast sent to and AWeber will send out your email to multiple lists without sending to the same email twice.

After you write the e-mail for the broadcast message, click on the box that says "Include or Exclude Other Lists": 2010-03-11_1030

A dropdown will appear. Select the other list you would like to include.

This way, people that are signed up to both lists will only receive one message. Aweber will automatically pull out duplicate e-mails and send the person only one e-mail.

EDIT: Kevin said something similar, in my Aweber account is reads "include or exclude other lists"

Jeff, the manager said, it was probably having skype that was running at the same time I wrote the message.

However when asked about, if that is stated on their site, they said no!

This is per manager, not per me. And yes, it was tested as always, but the link did not work, and as for the traffic, it was couple of paid advertisement, very targeted to the niche market. BUT not a single link was being opened.

If it was a problem with you WRITING the message with Skype running, then it's an easy fix--shut down Skype while you write the message.

How was AWeber involved in your email message for paid advertisements? Were you using AWeber to track them somehow?

Are you saying you composed a message, tested the link, the link did not work but you sent it anyway?

No, we tested the link and it worked for us, but when you send aweber, the link is tracked, and it did not work. Yes we now know we cannot have skype running, but it would have been nice to know that in the first place, or to have it stated somewhere. And we have an auto pilot system we use to generate sales and it involves building a list and selling all at the same time.

I am not sure why, but it seemed to me, you are trying to find a fault on our side, but it was a fault on their side, which they admitted. As I've said, I've used aweber since 2008 and in the last 6 months we had issues that were really something.

I have a problem with someone coming to a public forum, making a wild accusation without giving all the facts against a company that people have sweated blood to make a success. I simply wanted to find out if your accusation was grounded. I wanted to hear the facts.

Anyone can come and "threaten to sue"--whether that is a reasonable response or not.

If it were your business being criticized in an open forum I'm sure you would want someone to ascertain the facts of the situation.

Kevin, I see what you want to say. And I totally agree, and as I said, I never criticized any company, but in this case, I am really mad, and I bet you would be too if you lost $600, and they said...Well that is your problem.... It probably was because you had skype running, and when asked, where it said you cannot have it running...They said, well it is just a problem we noticed with some other customers, but yeah we do not have that in our terms.

The worst thing was, that they did not care about us. And the only thing that really makes them successful is loyal customers. The thing is we have multi accounts with them, and we recommended aweber to many of our subscribers. I was a big fan until this happen and this has really upset me.

I added the feature to not send dupe email to any email address to my Vertuso system early in the design. I am sure Aweber would have the same feature, but a lot of them don't since I get dupes from lists I am subscribed to. I have never checked which system they are using though.

I dont have the "send to multiple lists" feature, so that is going on the to-do list. How important is that?

I do encrypt the email addresses to prevent hacking. That was also early in the design process.

I really can't see how Skype would interfere with a website. That sounds like you got a goofball tech-support person. I would be interested to hear the details of how that could occur. Did they tell you anything more? If not, I would say he was guessing.
