seeking advice on the legal and accountancy side of IM

Hi

I'm looking for advice on what kinds of questions I need to ask and what kinds of structures I need to think about putting into place as I grow my internet marketing business and diversify with lots of different niches and products.... re taxation, company name, complying with the laws, which laws I need to be aware of etc etc Working alone, maybe partnering with others later ....

I am based in the UK but my target market is mainly US

At the moment most of what I do is done using my personal name

    Hello Joy,

    Sounds like a lot of your questions center around taxation and legal formation of your business (which is also related to taxation). Your best bet is to talk to a qualified professional in your area.

    Also, here in the U.S. the IRS (irs.gov) provides a lot of info on their site. I'm not sure what the UK's equivalent is, but that's also a place for you to start. That way, you're assured of getting correct info from an official source.

    Point is, don't take legal or tax advice from folks here on the forum. I can't tell you how many times I've seen really, REALLY bad advice being dished out as if the poster was an authority on the topic.

    I absolutely agree with what Becky has said. Better get proper qualified advice so you don't end up with problems later. You can speak to your local businesslink who may offer you some business planning help.

    You need to review the guidelines of both the countries US and UK. Taxation rules will be of your country as you are doing business from there.

    I've just gone though this process ( LLC, FEIN, Sales Tax) and Ive found that my state ( Colorado) provided a wealth of info and a step by step guide. A simple google search for "obtaining a business license in X location" should yield some helpful results.
