Default Bulk email marketing for traffic?

Thanks and kudos to NickMarks and the all members who contributed. it has given a newbie like me new hope and more ideas for traffic generation. One item I did not see was email marketing, namely, using a bulk email service to send out millions of spam-compliant opt-in emails. I have done this on a trial basis with no results. Has anyone else tried this with more success? Thanks again.
