    Hi,

What can i say except you hit the nail dead centre on the head, i took John Thornhills masterclass 36 week course last year, on how to create a product of your own?

Now that course was money well spent, as soon as i started promoting it 2 weeks ago within the first week i created 3 sales at $33 a time via Clickbank, and i have also started to build a customer and affiliate list at the same time, its all coming along slowly but surely and that`s what counts!

Cheers for your post, you`re so right to point this out....John.

the cons is that it can be difficult part in providing customer service and delivering product. This is the overwelming part.

Sure I can make more money having the product myself, but it's such a huge hassle processing it. Sometimes it's best to get the 50/50 or higher if you negotiate well.

creating your own product is the way to go, no more worrying about the product or offer being pulled if it's cpa, no getting only a piece of the pie especially if using ppc, you get everything, 100% of the profit and the contact details.

plus affiliates can get on board and help you get sales and build a list....

Thanks for your pithy report. As a person who has been creating my own products for over 20 years, I agree. But let me share another possibility that most would not consider.

A few years ago I released my third product in a series that dealt with buying and selling personal/corporate property. It was The Beginner's Guide to Chatteling. When I first introduced it, my small but responsive list scooped it up. Then I created an affiliate program, and more sales. THEN, and here is where it takes a turn...

I offered to sell it "lock, stock and barrel", which means ALL the rights to it, with the condition that I would remain a affiliate, IF it were to be offered in an affiliate program. WHY do this?

For one thing the sale brought me a very fast 5 figure income. Like, in a week. The guy who bought it used it as a bonus for his own work, then offered REsell rights to a limited number of people...and one of his resellers set up an affiliate program at Pay Dot Com to promote it.

He rewrote the intro but left the promotion I wrote as it was...and renamed it Chatteling 101.

NOW as an affiliate, I can simply put my link in as I do in my sig file at Sowpub.com forum, and have an auto pilot income without any promotion, support or fulfillment. And I prefer Pay Dot Com over ClickBank, because of the PayPal way of payment.

Also, with the work, which someone else owns and sells, I have embedded links to my other Information products and so when ANY one, anywhere sells one of these "affiliate" products that I have created, I always get some flow back.

So CREATE your own products. But be CREATIVE as to what you do with them too.

    gjabiz

PS. In the past decade and a half, I've created audio, video and many little special reports and every one has been profitable. OH, and most of them have been sold from a FREE web site that I've used for years.

      gjabiz,

Can you tell us where the buyer came from? Did he just show up out of the blue, or were you trying to sell it? If you were trying to sell it, where would you go to sell something like this?

        Trivum,

Many years ago I was seeking investors for my golf shop. I had lunch with Burt Morgan, who always gave me great advice (although he NEVER gave me any money, nor did he invest in any of my projects, HOWEVER, his advice has been worth tens of thousands of dollars to me)

Burt told me two things that changed my thinking:

ONE: "It's better to get shot out of the water than to rot at the dock."

TWO: "Find your investors from your "fans"."

He suggested I look to my golf STUDENTS, those guys who liked how I taught, were loyal, and had a keen interest in the subject. (Burt thought golf was "pasture pool").

So to answer your question. The guy who bought my report "lock, stock and barrel" was found on my list of loyal customers, a guy who saw the value and had a use for it. I believe I posted on SowPub forum that I was seeking a buyer. And I also sent an email to my small but highly responsive list of people who had purchased all my reports on the subject.

So Burt was right, you'll find your investors from people that know and like what you do and/OR from a group of people who have an understanding of how to market your product or service.

In golf, my angel came from golfers, specifically my students.
In selling my Intellectual Property, the buyers came from those people who were familar with the product and saw a use for it.

        Hope this helps.

        gjabiz

Having affiliates promote your own products is also a smart way to reduce risk in your business.

Most affiliates have one or two primary traffic generation strategies.

If one of those traffic sources dries up, due to slaps, increasing click prices, change to TOS, etc., then the affiliate's business could be cut in half or even shut down overnight.

But when you have multiple affiliates promoting your products, your risk exposure is dramatically reduced.

In my opinion, creating your own products is the best way to put yourself in the guru status. But what others have said on here, you have to be creative and make sure that you are putting out some quality stuff. Thanks for posting this.

    Great thread.

All the successful gurus are now millionaires thanks to their own product.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1858721].message }}
  • Also, as a product owner you unload the REAL difficult part of the IM equation (quality traffic generation) onto your affiliates, so you can focus on the easy stuff: product and upsell creation, customer support, etc.

  • This is a great, concise report that is a must-see for all product creators. Successful product creation is the surest way to build and grow your own assets for the long term. Only when you create your own products, can you truly follow and leverage the core principles of a successful entrepreneur, which include passion, action, focus, and perseverance.

As you mention in your report, affiliate marketing is one option, but having your own is better.

Many product owners combine the two, which is an excellent way to gain maximum mileage from your efforts, while minimizing your efforts.

In other words, you create your own product, build your list, sell your own product, and market affiliate products to your list without the added work of creating those other products. It gives you the best of both worlds.

For people who have difficulty coming up with their own products, PLR is a less expensive alternative to outsourcing it. With PLR, you can modify it and make it your own which gives you a good first product. It provides an excellent opportunity to get started in product creation.

Gjabiz provided some insight into the real power of creating your own infoproducts - the potential you gain for being creative.

      Some examples...

      1. You give away your $47 ebook as an exclusive bonus to those who buy a high-end package from you where you are the affiliate putting hundreds of thousands of dollars in your pocket. I've done this many times where I leverage a top selling product to make an even bigger affiliate sale

      2. You selectively sell license rights. My first 5-figure check from my own business came from a one-off license deal with a private membership site owner who wanted private label rights for his members only. Since he had less than 100 members and committed by agreement to not share beyond those private members, this was a great deal. Since then, I have signed several more of those.

      3. Once you have a 3-4 infoproducts you can begin to bundle them in very creative ways - it may be 3 ebooks at $27, but when you have them recorded to audio and perhaps bundle in a few videos or teleseminars, they can become a $397 home study course or seminar.

      4. Having your own products is a terrific way to negotiate ad swaps and other co-marketing agreements where you can get very sweet commissions - you offer their product, they offer yours.

Lots of other pluses too...the biggest being passive income once you have spent the time developing the product, easily one of the most profitable ways to use your time.

Having products is great. I built a whole software range so the bundling possibilities were endless. Site licenses - they're also great.
