Need to write an E-book on the fly and don't have adobe ?

If you do not have adobe and need to create an E-book on the fly, create it in word perfect .wps format , add your cover ( there is free cover resources on this very forum ) then go to Zamzar - Free online file conversion and then upload your E-book there , it will convert it for free and it will end up in your email. I always found it easy to create in wps format and then convert it. Hope this helps some of you.

  • Thanks for the recommendation. I wrote an ebook on planning an affordable wedding, in two languages and was only able to convert one of them into Adobe because of the free trial on the site. I did not know of this one. I will give it a try and let you know how it goes. Thanks

I'm using linux so I find converting sites helpful in a lot of situations. I have used Free online media file conversion (Document, Images, Audio, Video & Archives) for awhile now with great results.

Forgot to add you must retrieve the E-book within 24 hours of them emailing you that it has been converted

" Your converted file will be stored for 24 hours from the time you receive your email from us "

Can also install a free PDF converter like doPDF, TinyPDF or PrimoPDF. These all install a 'virtual' printer in your file->print menu that saves the document on your computer as a PDF.

Then you can write your document in word, wordpad and create PDFs pretty easily.

I've been using pdf995 for years with ease. A friend had some issues trying to make Open Office work in creating pdfs with active links.

pdf995 takes your Word document, complete with Table of Contents links and any other links you include, and converts it into a pdf document. You make your default printer the pdf995 printer, to create the pdf but you don't actually print it. It saves the file on your computer.

It's free, too. If you want to remove the ad popups, it's still only $27 (*last time I looked) for a one-time license.

I NEVER understood what the hype with so called "ebook creators" is since i am saving my books as .PDF right from Word for ages already.

    Here's another goodin:

PDF Converter - Convert to PDF Online Free

Can handle large projects with plenty of images and your links remain clickable for
    both Windows and Mac users.

Some free online PDF converters couldn't preserve the links when I went to open them on my Mac but this one does.

OpenOffice is hands down the best tool to create eBooks on the fly. I never had Word on any of my machines and I don't see the need to pay several hundred dollars for the software if I can use a free equal that does everything I need it to do - including eBook creation and formatting.

You can download OO for free at openoffice.org and if you Google OpenOffice tutorials you can find a range of helpful posts to get you started.

Alternatively you can use NeoOffice (great for Mac users since I believe it is "lighter" than OO but does the same things as its big sister.

      Hope this helps

I used to use adobe, where you send them your email, and they email you a link to their PDF they have created. You just upload a word file or somthing, then they email you. Was quick too

If you're using Microsoft Word 2007, you can easily just save the word document as a PDF....no problem.. May even work with previous editions. There may be functionality not available e.g. not able to password protect or to restrict coping etc.

Really helpful thread. I have just posted a thread regarding a problem I've been having.

My links don't seem to work when I change it to pdf and I've tried warrior pdf converter, primo pdf and tried converting it from openoffice. Only the link to my blog in the header of the document seems to work.

Now after reading this thread I've tried Zamzar and waiting for the email to arrive with the pdf lets see how it goes.

    Cheers
