SEO and incorrect spelling. Should I give it a go?

I've had quite a lot of success with my SEO in the past but there's one part I've always avoided and that's miss spelled words.

I've found a good keyword that ticks all of my boxes. I really believe I can rank for it but it's one that's not spelt correctly.

It has a single 'n' in the keyword phrase when it should be a double. This keyword has 8,000 monthly searches and little competition has anybody had any success in the past with SEO and incorrect spellings such as this.

I've always thought it looks unprofessional but if it works I'm up for giving it a try. I'd really appreciate any feedback from anyone who has experience on this subject.

The trouble is, most search engines auto-correct misspellings these days. So while it's possible you could rank for a misspelling if they don't catch it, it's not as lucrative as it once was.

There might be 8,000 searches per month, but when they type it they'll see this:

Did you mean: correct spelling Top 2 results shown

What percentage of those 8,000 click on the corrected spelling? I'm guessing a lot.

Then, your absolute highest possible ranking is #3, since the correct spellings get the top 2 spots.

But if there's high enough volume and no competition, it might be worth checking out.

Thanks for that I've seen the auto correct spelling thingy at the top many times this is another thing I was concerned about. I suppose alot of the searchers will click on the link to take them to the correct spelling just like I do.

Not only that, but Google often just corrects it without even asking.
