The best KW's for BLOGS....

I know when I set up a Blogger or WP I need to find a not too competitive Keyword and put the blog up for that actual phrase...and I hope to rank under that KW in Google.

I will then post articles to the blog, will I then rank for the KW's in each of the articles??? I just want to establish if I need to find KW's for the articles that are not too competitive or does this not matter once the blog has been set up under the initial KW you have choosen??

Thanks for any info as I am a new blogger.

Yes you should write articles that include the Keywords you want to rank for.

For example, lets say your website is on Acne. And you looked for a good keyword phrase you could rank for and found "Acne Be Gone" (this is just an example I have not done any research here).

You would want to write articles to get ranked for this phrase in your blog.

Now some people will try to rank a blog for just one keyword phrase. Others will try to get a number of keywords ranked high. For each keyword selection you will want to write articles that use the keyword.

    Hope this answers your question.

You could also set up a blog under a main topic (keyword) like "dogs" then use your posts as articles for related longtail (pun intended) keywords like "best dogs for pets", "training dogs", "grooming dogs"...

Or start out with a more specific niche within the "dog" market like "Best Dogs For Pets" blog and then write those articles / posts within the "Best Dogs For Pets" niche.

Go find information about which dogs make the best pets and write those articles / posts with titles like "Best Dogs For Pets - The Great Dane".

You can then find unique related longtail keywords within those sub-niches. For instance: The Great Dane might be prone to hip problems so now you have another post topic under Great Danes "Hip Problems and Great Danes". "Does Your Great Dane Suffer From These Hip Related Problems"?

So, the structure would look a little like this:

Main Blog Topic (Best Dogs For Pets) then the top 5 or 10 dogs that make great pets (The Great Dane) then sub niches or unique topics for each like (Hip Problems) and so on.

This type of structure works well for developing authority type sites.

Main Topic - Category - Sub Category.

    Main Best Dogs For Pets

Category The Great Dane - Sub Category Hip Problems

Category Poodle - Sub Category Grooming

Category Basset Hound - Sub Category Problems With Ears

As you see, the sub points also relate to "dogs" in general but you are finding a way to write about them that makes them a unique longtail phrase that limits your competition and allows you to rank for what would otherwise be competitive keywords.

Another thing that really helps build your site fast is using an analytical program like Google Analytics.

After your site has been up for a week or so, you will start to see what keywords and phrases people are using to find your site.

When people are using terms and words that you didn't expect like "fleas in ears" and yet they found you, write about that now with a post.

Go learn about "fleas in ears" and write a post about it.

More people will find you using that phrase and you are building your site organically through the searches coming in.

Anyway, sorry to make it such a long post. I didn't intend to write a book on it

    Hope that helps.

This is what I tend to do, and it works very well. You can rank for several keywords or keyword phrases within one site.

Just start writing posts about your topic. By doing so, you will inadvertently add keywords to your blog.
