Need Tips For Purchasing Multiple Domains

Hello Warriors,

I am planning on purchasing and using anywhere from 25 - 60 domains within the next few weeks.

I have heard different tips over the years, like not to use the same host for them all.

Does anyone have any other tips or tricks for buying and implementing many domains at once?

Thanks,
Allen

    Hi Allen,
Why not use the same host ? The ip thing is a myth...

If you could be a little more specific without spilling the milk I might be able to offer some suggestions ....

The reason to not use the same host is that if you are on a shared server and it goes down all your sites will be down in one hit. Also if you get a spam complaint they could shut down all your sites.
As for purchasing a lot of domains, Go Daddy has an account that you pay for up front and then all your domain purchases are $7.69 for .com
If you are going to be purchasing a lot it may be worth it. You can always host elsewhere.

Another warrior just started a thread saying that lightening hit his host and over 100 of his sites are down all at once. Perhaps its a sign...*shrug*

I do not know what "IP thing" you are speaking of, but if you are stating that Google can take action based on an IP address, then you are correct.

On a server of mine which which had multiple websites, one of the sites I was hosting pumped out millions of web-pages based off of duplicated content as part of a study. The traffic soared for about 3 weeks, then suddenly dropped. After looking into it, and reviewing many complaints, not only did that duplicate content domain get de-indexed, but all of the sites I had on that particular IP address were de-indexed as well.

Sorry if I'm confusing what you are saying in the "IP thing" term world, but I thought I'd toss in my experience in case it related.

Some seem to think you should have all your sites on different IP's because if you do not it will effect your rankings... That's bull......

Ah, yea I would say initially that is not true. Having multiple sites on the same VHOST should not matter, unless....

What if SiteA linked to SiteB linked to SiteC.

This is a pretty normal occurrence, I bet it happens all the time. This could seem somewhat normal to Google without stretching the imagination at all.

          HOWEVER

What if SiteA + SiteB + SiteC were all on the same IP address and linking to one another.

Wouldn't that seem a little bit more unnatural to Google?

Nope because I do exactly that and have for years.. My listings do not suffer one bit but it does help spread the link love around and especially for new sites I come up with ...

The ip thing is a myth and even google itself (Not that I trust anything they say) has said this very thing in an hour long video they released about 2 weeks ago ...

Not sure about hosting but for buying I'm using an agent - same guy for two years - he take care of it all from taking order to private address, to forwarding to my hosting to putting up a new account with a registrar. He charges $8 for the while thing including private registration (if needed) . NO surprises with him ever.

Set the IP thing aside, it's not the most important reason to spread your sites around. I use four different hosts. If one host goes down I'm still in business with 75% of my sites.

Many years ago I hosted all my sites with one host. That host was hit by a huge storm that for all practical purposes wiped them out. At first you don't know what's going on. You call and call and can't get through. Sooner or later, in a day or two, news filters through that the host is down and will be down and no one knows how long they will stay down.

In the meantime, you're still out of business.

Eventually you decided to move your sites. That means finding a new host, changing the DNS, uploading everything, configuring scripts . . . it all takes time. I was out of business completely for three days before I got the first site back online on the fourth day. It took a week before all my sites were up and running again.

Lesson learned. So now I spread my sites out, and I sleep better knowing if all my sites get wiped out there's something bigger to worry about than hosting.

    Thanks everyone.

I'm not worried about IP addresses, I am worried about the host going out of business or, as Dennis said, getting hit by a storm or God forbid, the owner ends up in the great IM Host in the sky.

Right now I am using HostMonster, HostGator and IceStorm. Anyone know of another host that offers more than the typical hosting program?

They are just going to be regular scripted websites. I need php/mysql and email - and of course the hosting accounts must be scaleable.

    hey allen,

my only thing is this... why not focus on buying ONE domain and promoting it? How will buy a ton of domains help you out?

My advice is buy a domain, put a product (ven PLR) on it, and promote it. Also, BUILD A LIST while doing this...
If not, you're honestly just wasting you time. Buying a ton of domains is out...

Thanks for your concern, CNP3, but I have my reasons.

Everything isn't always as it appears on the surface.

OK, seriously, this is silly. No offense, but if you don't understand why someone might want a lot of domains/sites, you're a beginner in IM and should probably avoid posting comments like that one as though you know what you're talking about. Learn first, then pontificate.
