What Best: Website or Blog or Website/Blog?

Question for all the SEO and / or Site builders or anyone that knows.

My proposed site will contain Pictures, Articles. maybe a place for comments and about (10) Six minute videos and a few Non adsense related products for sale. The products are self-produced pack and ship.

EDITED: Let me say I know how to put up a Blog and Plug-ins for that Blogs purpose more or less.

Also, I know how to put up an HTML Website using NVU or something of that nature.

The MAIN Question I have is SHOULD I COMBINE the WEBSITE with a BLOG in a Sub-Directory as opposed to Stand Alone Website or Blog?
such as: www.MyWebsite.com/Blog ???? Sorry for the confusion. I also added a poll.

Original Question: What kind of site using only 1 domain should I build? I started with a website at www.mywebsite.xxx and then I heard it was better and Google loves Blogs....so I went www.MyThesisBlog.xxx and now I'm hearing that it is better for SEO to have a website with a blog in a sub-directory such as www.Mywebsite.com/Blog:confused: I hear that if you do just a blog that Google only lists it on their Blog page and that Websites get listed on their Main page (I'm not talking about the search pages, I'm talking about internal Google list pages????).
So now since I'm not too far along I'm thinking of doing the www.Mywebsite.com/thesisBlog and BTW I'm thinking of using Joomla as the website portion...
****But my question remains the same is Which Method is Best for SEO/Google purposes?
Thank you for any input!!

The SEO differences in blogs and websites are just in the design and link structure. Neither is better if you have full control. For someone who isn't as knowledgeable in SEO or programming then open source platforms like Wordpress have been refined to an optimized point.

There are plenty of plugins and easy-seo methods with blogs which generally make it the more common option for basic publishers/marketers. Alternatively, if you're from a programming background - finite on-site optimization is much easier from scratch.

    Cheers,
    Kris

      Hi Kris,
Thanks. Well as you say there are plenty of plugins for SEO in blogs etc...would the plugins still work for SEO purposes if the blog were in a sub-directory of a website...Not TOO techie please....LOL
      Thanks,

yah, adding to what krisism says if you know the right scripts to use a wordpress blog can be highly optimized SEO speaking to rank really high on the SE. If you are techy you can create websites to do the same. For those starting out I'd suggest going with wordpress and using plugins.

Thanks ZeZe. Are you speaking of Plug-ins when you say scripts? I hear Thesis WP Theme is good, for built-in SEO, but as I said I heard by placing the Blog in the Sub-Directory of a Website you somehow get more credit from Google???? Any thought on that. That is really my main question.
No, I'm not a programmer, but I can put up an index page and or a blog with NVU or WP hosted with my own hosting and follow SEO instructions.

Thanks....So are you saying just a WP Blog stand alone...not a WP Blog in a sub-directory of a Website? Just forget about the website? Thanks
