Links in my PDF... I am losing my mind I think!

I've done this before, I'm sure I have, which is weird since I can't do it now...

I want to make text in my ebook into a link. At the moment I can get it to link individual words, but how do I turn a phrase into a link. So if I want 'find out more here' to become a link, at the moment the word 'find' is working as a link, but the other words don't....

I'm using PDFedit995.

Thank you Warriors. I am sure someone can help me do this... I can't understand what I am doing wrong because I'm sure I have done it many times before...... hmmm

    Hi Tracey,

First you need to open your file for your PDF eBook and click on
print. Next, after your PDF file opens, close it and then open PDF
edit. This is because PDF edit only edits the last file you saved.

You would set it up by putting the words together. This is the only
way I have been able to get it to work with PDF edit.

So if you were wanting a link for your self improvement eBook,
you would put something like Are-You-Ready-To-Be-Happy?

Next you would go to PDF edit and click on Links. There are
    2 fields one says text and one says URL. Put your text;
Are-You-Ready-To-Be-Happy? in the text field and the URL you
want it to lead to in the URL field. Then click on Convert
    Text To Links.

Make sure you have a list in a notepad with all your text and
URL's ready before you go to set it up.

Once you have all your links set with your text, you are ready
    to go.

    Good Luck!

    Hi Tracie

Thanks for the help - really appreciate it

The thing is I'm sure there's a way to do it without doing the '-'. I am thinking it might look a little messy....

    Anyone?

    Thanks again.

      Hi Tracey,

Seems strange alright. You should be able to use a phrase as a link, and a normal phrase at that. In fact I have just created a quick pdf with the phrase 'find out more here' in word and converted it with pdf995 to make sure.

One of the problems I used to have sometimes is that the default size of my printer page was different from the default in pdfedit. Did you notice that sometimes a link works, but the finger pointer only becomes active in the general area of your link text and not exactly on it? Maybe even two or three lines above it or below it? This is usually a sign that the default pages were not set properly.

      (Go to control panel
      printers and faxes
select the pdf995 printer and right click
      choose properties
      printing preferences
      Advanced
Page size - set to a4
Then click the Page tab in PDFedit and make sure it's set to a4 as well)

When you change something in PDFedit it retains those changes for future pdfs, so it's possible you changed some setting the last time you used it, which is causing you problems now.

      Regarding other methods:
You don't have to link the words with hyphens, and though you can set individual text to link by using the 'convert links' button there is an easier way that will automatically convert them all using the 'batch print' option in pdfedit. So you won't have to go through each individual phrase you want to convert.

Better still, if you convert to pdf often, set up the pdf toolbar in word. This means that all you have to do is click on an icon on your toolbar each time you want to convert your word document. This is what I do and so far - never any problems.

Or, start using OpenOffice! I use both. pdf 995 works fine while I get used to the word features of openoffice (I'm quicker writing in word!)

      Hope this helps,

      Steve
